Livasa Hospital here has launched an Integrated Diabetes, Obesity and Weight Clinic, aiming to provide comprehensive care for patients suffering from obesity, diabetes and other lifestyle related disorders. The clinic will function under the leadership of Dr Asheesh Sinha, senior consultant (internal medicine and diabetes) at the hospital.

During an awareness session organised to mark the launch of the clinic, Dr Sinha said obesity was a complex and chronic disease influenced by genetic, physiological and environmental factors, and should not be viewed merely as a result of poor willpower.

He said long term and sustainable management required a multidisciplinary and patient-centric approach.

At the event, experts highlighted what they called the four major pillars of obesity management — balanced nutrition; regular physical activity; behavioural counselling; and advanced medical interventions, including pharmacotherapy and bariatric surgery.
