MANILA, Philippines — The government has provided about P43 million worth of assistance to families affected by enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat) and Typhoons Luis and Maymay, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.
The aid was extended to affected communities in the National Capital Region; Regions 1, 2, and 3; Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR); Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguja-Batngas-Rizal-Quezon); Mimaropa (Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan); and Regions 5, 6 and 9.
In a Palace press briefing on Monday, OCD Assistant Secretary Laurence Mina said the OCD-CAR also distributed of food and non-food items amounting to P1.67 million.
Mina said the OCD, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), local government units (LGUs) and other partners coordinated to distribute the aid.
There are 384,520 families, or 1,310,000 individuals affected, with 16,130 families, or 58,650 individuals currently taking shelter at 624 evacuation centers.
There are also 11,360 families, or 39,290 individuals, temporarily staying outside evacuation centers.
He also reported that in Regions 1 and 6, CAR, Calabarzon and Mimaropa, there are 367 damaged houses, with 27 totally damaged and 340 partially damaged.
Authorities in Region 1, CAR, and Calabarzon reported 12 fatalities, 8 missing, and 11 injured persons, although these figures are still being validated, he said.
Search and rescue operations in Atok, Benguet, and Guisad Surong, Baguio City, are also ongoing with the participation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Department of Public Works and Highways, he added.
