The vessel Ocean Thunder has arrived in Malaysia carrying one million barrels of crude oil from Basrah, Iraq. This is part of a broader supply network, one of PETRONAS’ efforts to ensure the country’s fuel supply remains stable.
Ocean Thunder arrives in M’sia through Strait of Hormuz
1 million barrels of crude oil can produce approximately:
- Diesel: 62-64 million litres
- Petrol: 45-48 million litres
- Jet fuel: 22-24 million litres
- LPG: 5-6 million litres
- Others: 18- 25 million litres
And the refining period for the crude oil would take roughly 6 days.

On average, Malaysians use up to:
- Diesel: 34 million litres
- Petrol: 46 million litres
- Jet fuel: 12 million litres
- LPG: 20 million litres
That’s ~112 million litres of fossil fuel per day
