KOTA BHARU – An oil palm worker pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here on Tuesday to seriously injuring his 58-year-old father with a jackfruit last month.

Muhamad Zarid Danial Rahim, 30, entered the plea after the charge was read before Judge Zulkipli Nik Abdullah.

He was accused of intentionally causing grievous hurt to his biological father, Rahim Mamat, 58, using a jackfruit at about 11am on Aug 13 at a house in Kampung Sungai Johar, Kuala Krai.

Zarid was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

Section 325 provides for a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine upon conviction. Section 326A allows the prison term to be extended to twice the maximum term prescribed for the offence when the victim is a family member.

The court fixed Oct 4 for mention of the case facts and sentencing.
