I am mindful that a fun run is typically to raise money for a charity or cause, promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, foster community and team-building, and provide an enjoyable, non competitive event for participants of all fitness levels. Fun runs combine social interaction with schoolmates and the community for physical activity with a goal, making them a popular way for individuals and groups to participate in a positive event while giving back.
Evidently, 6th September, my wife, Zarina & I joined 11,000 peace loving Malaysians for Run for Peace 2025 themed ‘Peace Starts with Me - Act Now for SDGs’. The flag-off ceremony was graced by YB Senator Saraswathy Kandasamy, Deputy Minister of National Unity, at MAEPS Square, Serdang. In this context, I was indeed excited when my junior alumnus of King Edward VII Secondary School (KE7) Taiping, OE Amir Shafiq, who's Project Director of Edwardian Fun Run 2025 informed me that “OEAKL Committee is organizing Edwardian Charity Fun Run 2025 at Lake Garden Section 7, Shah Alam, Selangor on 8th November (Saturday) to raise funds for our alma mater's sports activities and foster a greater camaraderie among the young & senior OE”.
I commended OE Amir & the organizing team by saying that “Targeting alumni, and the community at large for fundraising efforts is an excellent idea and an important part of alumni engagement. After all, our alma mater, KE7 provided us with life-changing experiences, an education, and a solid skills set to pursue higher studies at the university in order to earn a living, having a family & acquire wealth, so OEs are at the top of the list of potential contributors.”
Based on my experience as Emeritus Chairman, Federation Asian Institute of Management Alumni Associations, Inc. that alumni fundraising campaigns are common for university alumni worldwide. So, alumni fundraising initiatives such as Edwardian Charity Fun Run is designed to bring funds to our KE7.
