It’s a packed Olympics schedule on day 15 of the Paris 2024 Games with Team GB keen to add to their medal collection on the penultimate day of competition.
Georgia Bell claimed a stunning bronze medal in the women’s 1500m as Laura Muir missed out behind gold medallist Faith Kipyegon, who broke the Olympic record to run 3:51.29.
There was history in the pool as Kate Shortman and Izzy Thorpe won Great Britain their first ever medal in artistic swimming, claiming silver behind China.
Caden Cunningham, who had secured silver after victory in the Men’s +80kg taekwondo semi-finals, missed out on gold in a dramatic loss to Arian Salimi of Iran. While Lin Yu-ting claimed gold in the women’s 57kg final following Imane Khelif’s gold medal amid a gender eligibility row at Paris 2024.
Noah Williams won Great Britian their first medal of the day with bronze in the men’s 10m platform. Williams added his second medal of the Games, after winning silver with Tom Daley in the synchronised event.
There are also two huge gold medal matches to look out for: first as the USA defeated Brazil as Emma Hayes won Olympic gold before the USA take hosts on France in the men’s basketball final.

Olympics 2024: Men’s basketball gold medal match - USA 63-51 France
21:40
Arthur Ferridge
We are into the final moments of this summer’s Olympic basketball, with the United States comfortably leading France with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The French are putting up a sterner fight than the Americans might have expected, and, while they have not led the match come the end of any one quarter, have kept the all-star Americans honest throughout the match. The deficit at the end of Q1 was just five points and fell to three points at halftime.
Coming to the end of the third quarter, though, the US’ class has begun to shine through, extending the lead to 12 points. As the game grows increasingly scrappy, it will be the Americans’ natural talent that makes the difference.
Olympics 2024: Taekwondo Women’s +67kg Finals - Laurin makes history in Paris!
21:25
Arthur Ferridge
Touching scenes here at the Grand Palais as the native Parisian Althea Laurin becomes France’s first ever Olympic taekwondo champion.
She made rather light work of Osipova, winning the first round in routine fashion before heading into a far more even second round, which remained scoreless until the final seconds. Osipova landed a head kick to take the lead on points with just seconds remaining, before Laurin responded with one of her own, the stadium clock showing 0.0 seconds remaining.
It came down to a judge’s decision, and the result was given in favour of the French fighter to raucous celebrations from the home crowd. It is a lovely moment for both the fighter and the crowd, who wave their phone lights and sing together in celebration.
Olympics 2024: Taekwondo Men’s +80kg Finals - Cunningham stumbles at final hurdle
21:08
Arthur Ferridge
After defeating the reigning world champion in the semi-finals, Caden Cunningham has been defeated by Iran’s Arian Salimi in the taekwondo heavyweight gold medal bout.
There is plenty of respect between the two, who share the moment on stage together following the match’s conclusion, but Cunningham will be crushed by the result. He started strong, winning round one by a score of 6-3, before allowing Salimi to stake a claim with a 9-1 score in round two. A particularly cagey decider was scoreless until less than a minute remained, eventually being decided by a head kick from Salimi in the final seconds.
Cunningham has made a fantastic account of himself and Team GB this week, and cannot be too disappointed with a silver medal. Do not forget his name.
Up next is the women’s heavyweight gold medal bout between Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Osipova and native Parisian Althea Laurin, who receives a raucous welcome from the home fans as she enters the ring. Still just 22, she has won world and European championships, not to mention a bronze medal at the Tokyo games. She will now look to build her resume further with a gold or silver medal.

Olympics 2024: Taekwondo Women’s +67kg Bronze Medal Match - Heartbreak for Rebecca McGowan
20:52
Arthur Ferridge
Despite winning the first round, Rebecca McGowan cannot quite close out a victory over Turkish fighter Nafia Kus Aydin, who will take home the bronze medal in the women’s +67kg match.
Kus had to battle for the win. In the face of a tough first round, in which McGowan came quick out of the gate and landed some devastating head kicks, she rallied for the subsequent periods, taking the second and third sets by a score of 2-4 and 2-6. Even after taking a medical pause in the final set, she persisted through the pain to claim a first ever Olympic medal.
McGowan’s wait for a first medal will continue for at least another four years. Still just 24, the Scot has plenty of opportunity to take another run at Olympic glory.
We now turn to the men’s +80kg final, where Caden Cunningham will look to turn over Iran’s Arian Salimi. Cunningham clearly adores the attention as he marches into the arena ahead of the biggest match of his career.
Olympics 2024: Lin Yu-ting wins gold medal amid gender row
20:51
Jack Rathborn
Lin Yu-ting has won gold, following Imane Khelif to reign at Paris amid the controversy of their participation.
The pair reportedly failed gender tests at last year’s world championships, according to the IBA, and the Taiwanese fighter dazzled at Roland Garros.
Lin beats Julia Szeremeta, winning 30-27 on all five judges’ scorecards. Now the questions will begin with the IOC and IBA far from done after Paris 2024. Read last night’s report after Khelif secured gold to confirm her status as a hero back in Algeria.

Olympics 2024: Taekwondo Bronze Medal Match - The world champion wins bronze by the finest margin!
20:27
Arthur Ferridge
The world champion Cisse bounces back from semi-final disappointment to beat Carlos Sansores and win the bronze medal!
Cisse looks to be hurting here. Early in the final round he took a kick to the back of the knee, falling to the ground as he took a moment to catch his breath. Injured or not, a stoic performance saw him win the final round by a score of 3-5.
It clearly means the world to him: he limps around the ring exuberantly toting an Ivorian flag as he celebrates his second career Olympic medal, and his first since Rio 2016.
There are finals still to come tonight, with the final and bronze medal matches of the women’s +67kg and final match of the men’s +80kg tournaments coming next. England will be represented in the women’s bronze medal match by Rebecca McGowan, while Caden Cunningham will carry the flag in the men’s final.

20:21
Arthur Ferridge
More medals are on the line across town at the Grand Palais, as Mexico’s Carlos Sansores and Cote d’Ivoire’s Cheick Sallah Cisse face off in the taekwondo bronze medal bout.
It is a routine win in the first round for Cisse, and Sansores looks to be on the back foot in the second, standing off Cisse as he looks to catch his breath, but fights back in the final seconds to force a deciding round.
Olympics 2024: Historic medal in artistic swimming
20:19
Jamie Braidwood
An Olympics first for Team GB in Paris!
Kate Shortman and Izzy Thorpe have won Great Britain their first ever medal in artistic swimming! China claimed gold right at the end, but it’s a moment for history for the Bristol pair.
Just look at them! They cannot believe it.

Olympics 2024: Men’s high jump final and men’s 4x400m relay finals
20:08
Arthur Ferridge
McEwen finds a gap in the sprinters and takes his chance to make another jump, but he misses 2.34m! He looks shocked that he missed it, and the gold medal should be well within reach for Hamish Kerr now.
He lines up for what could be his final jump and takes his time waiting to go, and finally succeeds! After missing five in a row, the Kiwi finally edges out in the jump off, a crushing defeat for Shelby McEwen. Kerr takes a lap of honour and takes in the moment on the pitch at the Stade de France, dashing around the stadium as he looks to celebrate with family and friends.
A reminder that Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim, the Tokyo gold medalist, will take bronze.
As that was all happening, the US won a relay, who would have thought? They cross the line exactly one tenth of a second ahead of Botswana, while Team GB complete the podium places in third.
Olympics 2024: Mens 4x400m relay finals
20:02
Arthur Ferridge
Its all happening here at the Stade de France. Away from the high jump finals, the men’s 4x400m relay final is getting underway, contested by South Africa, Zambia, Japan, the United States, Belgium, Botswana, Great Britain, France, and Italy.
The high jump wil pause momentarily to let the runners pass while the race finshes.
Olympics 2024: Men’s high jump finals
19:58
Arthur Ferridge
High drama in Paris! How much more intense could this get?
The jumpers drop the height from 2.38 to 2.36, and still they cannot be separated! Both men fail the fifth consecutive jump and we head to another round of sudden death.
The height drops again to 2.34. McEwen and Kerr continue to jump!
Olympics 2024: Men’s high jump finals - The Jump-off continues!
19:54
Arthur Ferridge
This is getting to be a groundhog day scenario now - for the fourth time running, neither Kerr nor McEwen can beat 2.38m!
We head to a second round in the sudden death jump-off as runners begin to warm up across the track for the men’s 4x400m relay finals.
Olympics 2024: Men’s high jump final
19:51
Arthur Ferridge
Shelby McEwen misses again with his final effort, clattering into the bar as he looks to extend his personal best further.
The Kiwi still had one effort remaining, though. With the whole stadium behind him, he psyches himself up and basks in the crowd’s adoration.
Somewhat disappointingly, he misses his mark and dives under the bar.
McEwen and Kerr remain tied: we head to a jump-off!
Olympics 2024: Men’s high jump final
19:43
Arthur Ferridge
High jump finals are coming right down to the wire at the Stade de France.
New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr and Team USA’s Shelby McEwen sat tied for first at 2.36m, with Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim just behind in third.
Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim currently completes the medal standings in third, failing his final jump as he attempts a 2.38m jump which might have put him into first had he completed it.
Just after his attempt, though, both Kerr and McEwen failed the same 2.38m attempt, remaining neck and neck going into the final round of jumps.
McEwen fails again at his second attempt, as does Kerr.
Each man’s final attempt, next up.
Olympics 2024: Women’s 1500m finals
19:17
Jack Rathborn
Who else but her? It was always going to be Faith Kipyegon going for gold, her reign as the fastest middle distance runner in the world is extended again as she claims her fifth Olympic gold medal in what is her third consecutive gold medal in the 1500m.
Oh, and she set an Olympic record in the proces, running a 3:51.29.
Australia’s Jessica Hull crosses the line in second, while Georgia Bell in third breaks the British women’s 1500m record, unseating Laura Muir, who finishes fifth.
Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji will extend her wait for a first Olympic medal, and it is a disappointing race for the American pair of Jiltz and St. Pierre, who finish seventh and eighth respectively.
4x400m relays are up next!

Olympics 2024: Cycling Track - Men’s keirin repechage
19:11
Arthur Ferridge
The repechage reruns are back: heat four was paused earlier after a nasty fall took Kwesi Browne out of contention, with the heat being rerun with just three competitors. Browne was removed from the velodrome on a stretcher, waving goodbye to the crowd as he did so, and we await an update on his condition.
The bar for qualification is not high: with two of the three riders progressing, all one has to do is not finish last. That said, the small pack made for a strategically complicated race.
The man eliminated is Andrey Chugay of Kazhakstan, while James Hedgcock of Canada and Cristian Ortega of Colombia progress.
Olympics 2024: Cycling Track - Women’s sprint
19:05
Arthur Ferridge
The cycling continues now that Kwesi Browne has been removed from the track, and we look to the second round of the women’s sprint quarter-finals, which take a best of three format. The first round took place around half an hour ago, and we continue.
Team GB’s Emma Finucane goes two-for-two over Colombia’s Martha Bayona Pineda to claim her place in the next round of the competition. She is in the hunt for her third medal of the summer after taking gold in the team sprint and bronze in the women’s keirin. Staffordshire native Sophie Caldwell cannot carry the torch, though, failing to overcome Hetty van de Wouw.
In the remaining heats, Lea Freidrich makes light work of Kelsey Mitchell, also winning in straight sets, while Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand goes similarly unchallenged. As with Finucane, she already has two medals in the bank this summer, with gold in the Keirin and silver in the team sprint.
Olympics 2024: Men’s 1500m final including Jakob Ingebrigtsen
19:04
Jack Rathborn
Wow, Gebrhiwet has gapped the field, but Ingebrigtsen won’t stand for it. He closes in a flash.
Mehary behind the Norwegian. We’re ready for a burn-up. Ingebrigtsen hits the front.
That was easy with 200m to go, Ingebrigtsen glided through the field and won by 1.5 seconds in a slow 13:13.66.
Grant Fisher had the speed to snatch a bronze, to go with his 10000m bronze. Impressive from the American who finishes behind Ronald Kwemoi in the silver position.
This field didn’t stand a chance at that pace, once again, Ingebrigtsen made them blink and didn’t make it a test of strength.

Olympics 2024: Men’s 1500m final including Jakob Ingebrigtsen and George Mills
19:02
Jack Rathborn
So many bodies, it’s risky business in this final, when the pace gets injected, expect to see a body on the track.
But so far everybody keeping their cards close to their chests. Now the Ethiopians move up and take the lead, Yihune and Mehary are there.
George Mills has been gapped and is out of the running here you would think, roughly 30-40m. McSweyn dropped off too. It’s winding up nicely.

Olympics 2024: Men’s 1500m final including Jakob Ingebrigtsen and George Mills
18:53
Jack Rathborn
Can Jakob Ingebrigtsen claim redemption then? He’s in the middle of the pack early on.
It’s a gentle pace, pedestrian even, with 26 names, which is surely far too many. The men sense the danger, too. It’s strung out already.
It’s desperately slow to begin with, 14:00 pace for the first kilometer. But now Lobalu gets a wriggle on.
Ndikumwenayo and Fisher join in the fun to get the train moving. George Mills in 10th but out of sight and trouble for now.

Olympics 2024: Cycling Track - Men’s Keirin Repechage
18:48
Arthur Ferridge
Kwesi Browne leaves the velodrome on a stretcher having donned a neck brace following a heavy crash in heat four of the men’s keirin repechage.
He receives a standing ovation from the crowd on his way out, and applauds them in return. We wish him as fast a recovery as possible.
Olympics 2024: Cycling Track - Men’s Keirin Repechage
18:46
Arthur Ferridge
After the drawn out chaos of the madison, we make a rather refreshing return to the sprint racing with the men’s keirin repechage.
Oto Kaya and Sam Dakin of Japan and New Zealand get their Olympic campaigns back on track, qualifying for the quarter finals after struggling in qualifiers. Team GB’s Hamish Turnbull crosses the line second in a thrilling repechage contest, sitting in last place until the final corner where he burst around the outside to qualify behind Yu Zhou who was subsequently disqualified, allowing Germany’s Luca Spiegel to qualify. Malaysia recover from a catastrophic morning session, with Sahrom making his way through in heat three alongside France’s Rayan Helal.
There is drama in heat four as Kwesi Browne crashes hard on the final lap of the race, bringing the heat to a premature end. The results are yet to be confirmed as he receives treatment.
Olympics 2024: Men’s high jump and women’s 100m hurdles
18:36
Jack Rathborn
Marco Tamberi, the defending co-champion in the men’s high jump, has just survived with a last-ditch attempt at 2.22m.
Mutaz Barshim looks confident and over a calf complaint, the Qatari, who shared the Tokyo title with Tamberi, has jumped 2.27m so far, level with American Shelby McEwen and Italy's Stefano Sottile.
Now then, the women’s 100m hurdles... Camacho-Quinn looks the strongest contender here. Can she get a clean run?
A roar... Has Samba-Mayela done it? Nooooooo, it’s the USA’s Masai Russell in 12.33 seconds. But the Frenchwoman takes silver! The Stade de France erupts, a first track and field medal for the French! Camacho-Quinn only in bronze.
Just three-hundredths of a second between gold and bronze, the Netherlands’ Visser was 0.07 further back in fourth.

The USA women’s football team claimed their fifth gold medal with victory over Brazil following a fiercely contested game.
Emma Hayes, who took charge of her side earlier this year, is overwhelmed with emotion while speaking with Eurosport immediately after the match.
She said: “I’m very emotional. It’s been a dream of mine to be in this position and defend my dad, because he’s the one who pushed me to this point - to be able to come and coach an unbelievable group of players who have recieved me so well.
“They are tremendous people and players and role models; I love them.
“I’ve got my dad’s necklace on; it’s got an American eagle. He was here with me today, and that helped. I’m just speechless to be honest; I’m in shock.”

Max Burgin hits the front, but not for long, Wanyonyi leads out with 600m to go.
It’s Wanyonyi, Tual, Hoppel, Burgin... Here we go at the bell, get ready for chaos!
It’s Wanyonyi! GOLD FOR KENYA! It’s a dominant run, 1:41.19! That’s not far off Rudisha’s world record.
Arop came close, but the extra muscle of Wanyonyi was superb to hold his line.
Sedjati couldn’t get in the picture, so disappointing after the fireworks he’s produced all season in the final 100m. He settles for bronze, edging out Bryce Hoppel.
Max Burgin down in eighth, 1:43.84 for the Briton, who has had a fine week, but that was too hot.

Team GB’s Max Burgin is in the 800m final. One of the hardest finals on the track to make, but now he has a shot in what Elliot Giles maintains can be “pot luck”.
Marco Arop, Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Djamel Sedjati are the favourites, but wouldn’t France love a medal from Gabriel Tual. And the USA’s Bryce Hoppel will fancy it, with fellow Americans seizing gold all over the track.
This one will be lively, get ready for fireworks!
Olympics 2024: Cycling track - Men’s madison - Gold for Portugal!
18:06
Arthur Ferridge
Fifty minutes of intense racing later, it is Portugal who take home the gold! They came from nowhere, not influencing the race until the late stages before lapping the pack and claiming a string of late sprint victories to take first place overall. Italy, who led for much of the afternoon but were hampered by a late crash, took second place ahead of Denmark, New Zealand, and Czechia.
The Danish rider Michael Moerkoev is set to retire following the race, adding another medal to his collection as he does so. He will complete his set of medals, now possessing one gold, one silver, and one bronze.
Team GB unfortunately failed to recover from their accident, crossing the line two laps down in twelfth place, chalking up a disappointing -29 points.
Fear not, cycling fans: there is plenty more cycling action yet to come from the Velodrome today! Next up is the women’s sprint quarter-finals ahead of the men’s keirin repechage.
Here are your final standings from the men’s madison:
1) Portugal - 55
2) Italy - 47
3) Denmark - 41
4) New Zealand - 33
5) Japan - 30
6) Germany - 22
7) Netherlands - 15
8) Czechia - 12

Ten minutes of injury time has been added, presenting Brazil with a golden opportunity to get back into this game.

Disaster for Team GB! They tangle with the Dutch rider in what appears to be an innocuous collission, but the British rider goes down hard and looks to be out of the race. The Dutch bike continues.

Just the 60 laps remaining now, and a clear leading pack is starting to emerge.
The lap points are making all the difference here - for the uninitiated, one gains 20 points for lapping the peloton, with Italy, Denmark, and Japan all achieving the feat once thus far. That puts them well in the lead, with Italy adding 22 sprint points to take a 5 point lead over Denmark.
Here is your leaderboard as it stands:
1) Italy - 42
2) Denmark - 37
3) Japan - 28

The riders are fast approaching the halfway point, and there has been a massive shakeup in the leaderboard. Austria have been lapped, losing 20 points as a result while SPain edge out a narrow lead over Italy and New Zealand.
It has been a fairly anonymous race from the Team GB pairing of Wood and Stewart thus far, they currently sit ninth out of eleven contenders.
With 121 laps remaining, there is still plenty of time for GB to come back into the race, though the same can be said for any of the other teams competing. This race is always a slow burn, so get comfortable as we wait for the remaining 12 sprints and 116 laps of racing to take place!
