Day five of the Olympics has already seen a Team GB medal rush, starting with the women’s and men’s triathlon events to kick off another busy day at Paris 2024.

Alex Yee turned his Tokyo silver into a spectacular Paris gold with a scarcely believable comeback in the men’s triathlon, which had to be postponed yesterday after failing safety tests due to pollution in the River Seine, just after Team GB’s world champion Beth Potter took a gutsy bronze in the women’s triathlon amid treacherous conditions.

Shortly after, the women’s quad sculls rowers added to the GB haul with an incredible comeback of their own to pip the Dutch boat to gold on the line. Meanwhile, in diving, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson won a resilient medal in the women’s 10m platform synchro, coming from behind to win bronze on their final dive, while BMX freestyle star Kieran Reilly secured a stunning silver at Place de la Concorde.

This evening, Katie Ledecky returns to the pool looking to extend her dominance in the women’s 1500m freestyle and claim her eighth Olympic gold, while there will be an exciting battle in the gymnastics hall when the men’s individual all-around final pits defening champion Daiki Hashimoto of Japan against China’s Zhang Boheng. Joe Fraser and Jake Jarman also feature for Team GB.

Follow all the action, latest results and medals from Paris 2024 in our live blog below.

Olympics 2024: Women’s tennis doubles

With the score 4-3 in favour of the British duo, they found themselves 0-40 down on serve.

However, spurred on by the crowd, they managed to fight back to take the game to Deuce, saving three break points.

They go on to take the game and establish a 5-3 lead.

This has been some really good tennis from the British pair.

Boulter and Watson were taken to deuce, but a strong forehand winner from the former managed to prevent them from being broken.

They eventually manage to hold and the crowd erupts into cheers.

They follow it up soon after with a break to make it 4-3, and the crowd break into a song of ‘we love you GB, we do’.

The lead group (the British, Chinese and Japanese gymnasts) finish up with a bar crawl, first on the parallels, then on the horizontal; the Ukrainian pair have the horizontal bar and floor to come.

Impressive resilience from China’s Zhang Boheng, bouncing back after that rather uncomfortable start on the floor to get back amongst the medal places after four rotations. His vault is ever-so-slightly off-line but he maintains his dynamism up into the air to get excellent height.

Now, what can the Brits do? Joe Fraser will vault first, and it’s good again from the Brummie, keeping himself in the mix. Over to his teammate on an apparatus on which he was the world champion last year.

And it’s very, very tidy from Jake Jarman. Three and a half twists entirely locked out. That could be a sizeable score...and is! 15.166, the best on the vault of the evening. He’s up into third, though only briefly as the Ukrainians strike, first Oleg Verniaiev and then, most spectacularly, Illia Kovtun excel on the parallel bars. A massive 15.400 for Kovtun, who just trails his compatriot in a surprise one-two as things stand.

All-around final standings after four of six rotations

1 Oleg Verniaiev (Ukraine) 57.766

2 Illia Kovtun (Ukraine) 57.632

=3 Xiao Ruoteng (China) 57.232

=3 Shinnosuke Oka (Japan) 57.332

5 Jake Jarman (Great Britain) 56.932

Olympics 2024: Women’s tennis doubles

18:09

Sonia Twigg

Boulter and Watson took the first set with relative ease, but the second has not been as straightforward.

The first four games of the second set went on serve, leaving it 2-2, and the British duo struggling to find the break, although crucially were not being broken.

Great Britain’s Katie Boulter and Heather Watson have won the first set!

They will want to keep their momentum going in the second and progress in the tournament at the expense of the Brazilian duo.

17:48

Harry Latham-Coyle

Mishap by mishap, things are looking ever prettier for Team GB’s Jake Jarman in his chase for a medal. Shinnosuke Oka struggles a bit on the rings, leaving the door open for Jarman to keep up his chase.

Up onto the rings he is hoisted, this his apparatus of relative weakness. A slight quiver and backward step on landing after the dismount, though that’s not awful. 12.800 - so-so. He’s down into 10th and will need a big vault to power back into contention. Joe Fraser, meanwhile, has smashed it on the rings, climbing to seventh.

Oka has got a bit of a boost, too, his rings re-marked and given a boost. Back up into first he goes. And Felix Dolci is getting another go...but he falls again, unable to get a proper grip with that sore paw. Remarkably, he manages to complete his routine at the third attempt. Gnarly stuff from the Canadian, whose hand is bloodied.

Here’s how the top of the leaderboard looks halfway through the six rotations - it’s very congested between second and 10th, so all to play for:

1 Oka Shinnosuke (Japan) 42.932

2 Oleg Verniaiev (Ukraine) 42.766

3 Xiao Ruoteng (China) 42.399

Olympics 2024: Women’s tennis doubles

17:41

Sonia Twigg

Katie Boulter and Heather Watson have kept going in the same manner as they started, easing to a 4-1 lead in the first set.

But the next game, the Brazilians have pulled one back to make it 4-2 in the opening set.

17:30

Harry Latham-Coyle

Eek! A horrible, horrible moment for Felix Dolci, who had been off to a sweet start through two rotations. But disaster strikes on the horizontal bar, his hand guard ripping in two and sending him hurtling towards the floor. Thankfully, other than some rather sore looking cuts on his palm, Dolci appears alright - though that may be competition over for the Canadian.

Olympics 2024: Women’s tennis doubles

17:27

Sonia Twigg

Great Britain’s women’s doubles are in action after Andy Murray and Dan Evans pulled off a heroic feat to book their place in the men’s quarter finals yesterday.

Katie Boulter and Heather Watson are 2-1 up in the first set against Brazil and looking strong so far.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final

17:22

Harry Latham-Coyle

A small error from Jake Jarman on the pommel horse, his palm slipping from handle to horse, but the British gymnast seems relatively pleased otherwise. Anything over 14 will be handy...yep, 14.066. The rings next will test a smaller, slighter athlete, but Jarman is just 0.100 behind leader Shinnosuke Oka in second after two rotations.

Joe Fraser has dropped back into ninth, leaving him a bit of work to do - though not as much as for our favourites, with Hashimoto and Zhang 15th and 16th.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom finals - Franklin speaks after disappointing showing

17:21

Arthur Ferridge

Despite finishing last in the canoe slalom finals, Franklin seemed to be at peace with the result, speaking candidly and honestly at the conclusion of the event, setting her sights already on the 2028 Olympics.

“I’m pretty disappointed, I struggled a bit on the movement and that snowballed a bit, picking up a few clumsy touches and being given a fifty [second time penalty] at the end to top it all off, so I think that after the year I’ve had I’m just happy to be here, put it out there and see what happens. It wasn’t to be today, but there is definitely scope for some learning and being able to come back into the rest of the season and the next [Olympic] games fighting and ready to go.”

“I think its really cool to have parity across genders here. That really shows that the sport generally is changing and there is more exposure for girls. You can see it here, there are some really good finals being being played out. I look forward to seeing the effects of it and seeing girls take up the sport in the future.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom finals - Australia snatch gold from Lilik’s grasp with event’s penultimate run

17:12

Arthur Ferridge

The results are in, and it will be gold for Jessica Fox and Australia!

Lilik laid down the gauntlet at the halfway stage, with her time going entirely unchallenged until Australia’s Jessica Fox entered the mix, contributing a glittering inch-perfect run to tear the gold from the German’s grasp. It will be the Australian’s second gold medal of the games.

Lilik will still be thrilled with her first Olympic medal regardless of its colour, with Evy Leibfarth joining them on the podium.

With a raft of penalties behind her, including one worth a devastating 50 seconds, Team GB’s Mallory Franklin reports the slowest time of the session.

Andorra’s Vilarrubla suffered a similar fate as Franklin, facing three penalties which combined to take her time well out of contention. Their wait for a first Olympic medal will continue.

Here are your final standings from Paris:

1) J. Fox (AUS) - 101.06

2) E. Lilik (GER) - 103.54

3) E. Leibfarth (USA) - 109.95

4) Z. Pankova (SVK) - 111.07

5) A. Satila (BRA) - 112.70

6) M. Doria Vilarrubla (AND) - 113.58

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final - Daiki Hashimoto falls!

17:09

Harry Latham-Coyle

Daiki Hashimoto has fallen off the pommel horse! Remarkable! The defending champion has to wander over to his coach to compose himself after a potentially fatal error.

A lowly 12.966. Is that him already out of the gold medal mix? Two huge mistakes from the two favourites inside the opening two rotations!

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final - Jake Jarman top of the standings

17:03

Harry Latham-Coyle

A fantastic opening rotation for Jake Jarman, top of the tree having aced that floor routine. He leads Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine, who started on the pommel horse, with Daiki Hashimoto in a tie for third.

Can Jarman maintain his advantage? He’s off to the pommel...

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final

16:55

Harry Latham-Coyle

Ooh. A nightmare opening for Zhang Boheng, who many felt could unseat Daiki Hashmioto. The Chinese gymnast is twice short in his routine, including once rather severely, bashing his bonce into the mat. 13.233! Wow - he’s got some high tariff efforts to come, but that leaves him a long, long way back.

Jake Jarman top of the standings as they lie nearing the end of the first rotation.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom finals - Mallory Franklin misses out on medal

16:54

Arthur Ferridge

Team GB’s Mallory Franklin underwhelms massively with her finals run, with three penalties dooming her to a provisional seventh place finish, the slowest time of the event so far. The slalom is a game of fine margins, and no time can be lost to penalties if you are hoping to land a medal.

The added six seconds will see the Tokyo silver medallist fall far below her standard, though their removal would not affect her current finishing position. Her final time is 165.15, a full 47.17 seconds behind her closest competitor.

In other news, we have a new leader! A wonderful run from Germany’s Elena Lilik has seen her storm into first place with a time of 103.54, leading by a margin of 6.41s with four rowers remaining.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final

16:47

Harry Latham-Coyle

A very good start from Jake Jarman, scoring 14.900 on the floor. That and the pommel horse are his two stronger apparatus, so there will be work to do elsewhere, but Jarman looked composed as he worked through his routine.

Over on the pommel, a shame for Frederick Richard of the USA, toppling off and thus marked severely.

Over to the Olympic champion, Daiki Hashimoto showing off his flicks and flips on the floor. It’s a little nervy to start, but it finishes most impressively with grand amplitude and a tight triple twist. A slap of hands with teammate Shinnosuke Oka...and a 14.633.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom finals - The top five as it stands

16:42

Arthur Ferridge

The canoe slalom finals are just as tight as the semis, with five of 12 paddlers now over the line. A penalty-riddled run for Lazkano, who held on to first place for much of the semi-finals, saw her drop down the order despite maintaining a healthy pace, while American Evy Leibfarth has emerged as a surprise early leader.

With seven runs still to come, here are your top five as it stands:

1) E. Leibfarth (USA) - 109.95s

2) Z. Pankova (SVK) - 111.07s

3) A. Marx (SUI) - 114.61s

4) M. Lazkano (ESP) - 116.97s

5) V. Us (UKR) - 117.98s

16:31

Both Jake Jarman and Joe Fraser are in a leading sextet of top qualifiers, taking to the floor to kick their evenings off. They’ll finish up on the horizontal bar, where defending champion Daiki Hashimoto had a few issues in qualifying.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom finals

16:26

Arthur Ferridge

The canoe slalom finals are about to get underway! A gold medal is on the line for Windsor-born Team GB hopeful Mallory Franklin was on pace for a top-three finish in the semi-finals, though a string of penalties saw her drop down to fifth place. Should she be able to produce a clean run here, Team GB’s latest medal looks to be a very real possibility.

Other favourites include the Cezch Republic’s Gabriela Satkova, Australia’s Jessica Fox, and Andorra’s Monica Doria Vilarrubla, the top three finishers from the semi-finals.

Franklin is set to compete seventh, in around 15 minutes time.

Olympics 2024: Men’s gymnastics all-around final

16:23

Harry Latham-Coyle

We’re not far away from the first tumble and twist at Bercy Arena as the male gymnasts contest the individual all-around final. 24 entrants, six apparatus, with the score on each of them added together to give a final total.

Jake Jarman and Joe Fraser are Team GB’s involvement as they seek to replicate Max Whitlock’s bronze in Rio, but the hot favourite is Daiki Hashimoto, so spectacular in Japan’s dramatic team triumph on Monday.

Covid threatens to derail Paris Olympic dreams – but Team GB has a plan

16:10

Jack Rathborn in Paris

As Team GB bid to add to their collection of medals, the very real threat of Covid threatens to derail hopes and dreams at the Paris Olympics.

Adam Peaty was 0.02 seconds away from a third successive men’s 100m breaststroke Olympic gold medal before being out-touched by Italian Nicolo Martinenghi. The Briton would later reveal he had been dealing with Covid after testing positive that morning, yet he refused to offer excuses despite spluttering as he left La Defense Arena.

Peaty could be content with a shared silver medal, yet others may not be so lucky, with Zharnel Hughes, a contender in the men’s 100m after bronze at last year’s World Championships in Budapest, detailing the meticulous process to avoid catching the virus.

Olympics 2024: Tennis at Roland-Garros - Auger-Aliassime leads from Medvedev

16:07

Arthur Ferridge

Daniil Medvedev has work to do at Roland Garros, dropping the first set of his third round match against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the definitive underdog according to WTA rankings.

The Canadian produced an impressive four aces in the first set and found an advantage in his close game, winning six out of six points at the net. Medvedev struggled for focus, reporting eight unforced errors and one double fault.

Medvedev, competing under the neutral flag, comes into the match ranked fourth in the world and is already on track for a best ever finish at the Olympics. A medal, though, would be his first major honour since winning the US open in 2021.

37.5 laps and then a marathon: Sifan Hassan chases impossible dream at Paris Olympics

15:58

Jack Rathborn in Paris

Sifan Hassan has announced her bid to pull off a historic treble at the Paris Olympics when she competes in the 5,000m, 10,000m and marathon events.

The Olympic champion in Tokyo over 5,000m and 10,000m, Hassan had entered the 1,500m, too, before dropping that event on Wednesday.

The Brownlee moment that inspired Alex Yee to Olympic triathlon gold

15:41

Arthur Ferridge

Alex Yee was 14 seconds behind his great friend and rival, New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde, and about to begin the final 2.5km lap of this Olympic triathlon when a familiar voice called out from the side of Alexandre III bridge. “Anything can happen, mate!” shouted Alistair Brownlee.

Yee was a wide-eyed 14-year-old in Hyde Park when he watched Brownlee win Olympic gold at London 2012, and had talked this week about picking up that legacy in Paris, in the first Games without a Brownlee brother for 20 years. For all the carb gels and isotonic drinks downed through an endurance race, there is nothing quite as powerful as the undying faith of someone we admire.

“It was a moment of belief,” Yee said. “It’s pretty special when somebody does that … I train with Alistair day in, day out and he’s such a big part of my journey. I moved in with Jonny when I first moved to Leeds. They’re always the first to message me before and after races. They believe in me.”

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom semi-finals

15:33

Arthur Ferridge

The women’s slalom canoe semi-final results are in, with Mallory Franklin progressing in sixth place. Her time of 111.62 would have been good enough for second place if it were not for her penalties, though it will be plenty to see her through to the finals, taking place this evening at 4:25pm.

Making up the top three are the Cezch Republic’s Gabriela Satkova, Australia’s Jessica Fox, and Andorra’s Monica Doria Vilarrubla, who would be the first ever Andorran Olympic medalist should she finish on the podium this evening.

It is all to play for in the gold medal event!

Olympics 2024: Carlos Alcaraz into men’s singles quarter-finals

15:29

Harry Latham-Coyle

Sharp and speedy work at Roland-Garros from Carlos Alcaraz, dispatching with Roman Safiullin in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). It’ll be Tommy Paul next up for the Spaniard, the pair re-acquainting themselves with one another after a thrilling quarter-final duel at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

Here’s how the last eight looks

  • Novak Djokovic (Serbia, 1) v Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece, 8)
  • Alexander Zverev (Germany, 3) or Alexei Popyrin (Australia) v Lorenzo Musetti (Italy, 11)
  • Casper Ruud (Norway, 6) or Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina) v Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada, 13) or Daniil Medvedev (AIN, 4)
  • Tommy Paul (USA, 9) v Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, 2)

Alcaraz will be back on court a little later alongside Rafael Nadal as they take on Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram for a place in the semi-finals of the men’s doubles.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom semi-finals - Team GB enter the fray

15:10

Arthur Ferridge

Team GB’s Mallory Franklin has hit the canoe course, finishing third with a time of 111.62 despite struggling on her way down the course.

Generally a top contender, this run was not as clean as Franklin might have liked. She collided with three gates, accruing six seconds worth of penalties. It will be enough for qualification, but there will not be so much room for error in this evening’s finals.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom semi-finals

15:03

Arthur Ferridge

The order is shaking up now, we have a new leader! With Mallory Franklin nearing the front of the queue, Slovenia’s Eva Alina Hocevar has set the standard with a time of 109.22.

This is a tricky course, and it has caught out a couple of rowers already. American contender Evy Leibfarth struggled, underperforming with what is currently a fifth placed finish, and a similar fate befell Italy’s Marta Bertoncelli, whose penalty-ravaged time ended up a 170.28, over a minute off the leader.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom semi-finals

14:46

Arthur Ferridge

We are starting to get an idea of how the final standings could shake out now, with five of the eighteen competitors having completed their runs.

The time to beat thus far is 116.27 seconds, set by the Spaniard Miren Lazkano. In second is Switzerland’s Alena Marx, traversing the final gate in 117.50 seconds.

Another reminder that the six slowest boats will be eliminated come the end of the session, and that Team GB’s Mallory Franklin is now seventh in line, meaning that she will compete in around 15 minutes.

Olympics 2024: Women’s canoe slalom semi-finals

14:28

Arthur Ferridge

We’re heading back to the water now for the canoeing semi-finals, where the top 12 competitors will progress to the finals, happening later this evening.

Team GB’s Mallory Franklin will look to make a splash, the Tokyo silver medallist will be the thirteenth rower to take to the course as she aims to secure the right to defend her silver medal title in this evening’s final.

The action is not far away now!

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly takes home silver for Team GB

14:27

Alex Pattle

One more run. Team GB’s Kieran Reilly, the 23-year-old world champion, has just been guaranteed bronze. But can he push on and secure a silver or gold?

94.82 is the score he needs to beat for gold, currently held by Argentina’s Torres Gil...

Bar-spin 720, then a 360 whip, followed by a no-hander. Now a double-whip.

Massive table by the Briton, then a 720 bar-spin, then a triple bar-spin!

Alley-oop bar-spin onto the table-top, now a 360 double-whip... into a flair whip!

Two more huge moves, but the latter might not count... had time run out?

Score incoming... Slightly better than his first, it’s 93.91! Silver for Kieran Reilly of Team GB!

Argentina’s Torres Gil takes home gold; France’s Jeanjean claims bronze!

Ecstasy for Torres Gil, while Jeanjean is distraught. Reilly seems happy.

14:24

Alex Pattle

54.60 for Justin Dowell after he bails out of his run, following a series of errors! The American’s first score, 88.35, won’t be enough for a medal.

Now here comes Australia’s Logan Martin, but he ALSO stops early after making several mistakes! Wow... His first score will count: 64.40, nowhere near the medals.

USA’s Marcus Christopher crashed in his first run, so he needs something huge here. But his second run won’t be enough for a medal! 93.11 puts him fourth!

That means Kieran Reilly is guaranteed bronze at least!

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

14:15

Alex Pattle

Anthony Jeanjean, the home favourite who crashed early in his first run, has a chance to put things right. The French crowd is RIGHT behind him, he’s going big with his tricks – though the execution is a little off here and there...

But overall it’s a fine run, the crowd is on its feet, and a solid score is surely incoming... The judges are taking their time...

93.76! It moves him into the silver-medal spot, pushing Nakamura out of the medal places! Reilly, meanwhile, drops to the bronze spot... for now.

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

14:11

Alex Pattle

Latvia’s Ernests Zebolds outdoes his first score, recording an 87.14. It won’t be enough for a medal.

Then goes Brazil’s Gustavo Batista de Oliveira, who can’t quite match his opening run. So his final score is 90.20 – just outside of the medal places!

Here goes Argentina’s Jose Torres Gil... 92.12, a great score, but just below his opening 94.82 – which will remain, keeping him on track for a gold medal at the moment...

Japan’s Rimu Nakamura JUST tops his first score, hitting 90.89 to move into the bronze-medal place for now!

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

13:59

Alex Pattle

Massive first move from Team GB’s Kieran Reilly, then a double truck driver.

Big no-hander, triple-whip, table-top off the island.

Now a double-tailwhip with a bar spin, followed by a double bar-spin.

A further bar-spin on the table-top, then a back flip with a double bar-spin.

OH! A massive move on his penultimate effort, and a front flip to end!

93.70, that puts Reilly into the silver-medal place behind Argentina’s Jose Torres Gil.

Every rider will now have one more run, though, so it’s still all to play for.

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

13:55

Alex Pattle

Oh, no! Another crash! Martin Logan falls partway through his run.

It had been far from perfect up to that point, with a couple of smaller mistakes, but a front bike flip featuring a running man was beautiful...

Only for the Australian to land awkwardly and go over! 64.40 is his score. For what it’s worth, Jeanjean’s early crash saw him receive a score of 3.22...

ANOTHER CRASH! USA’s Christopher Marcus lands heavy, rather early in the run! 29.40 for him...

The pressure is getting to these riders! Will Reilly handle it?? GB’s world champion is up next, the last to go...

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

13:51

Alex Pattle

France’s own Anthony Jeanjean, one of the favourites here, goes BIG on his first trick... but he crashes!!

He’d been near-perfect in the heats, but now he’s left with just one run to save his medal bid...

He went for a double-tailwhip but his leg got caught under his rear wheel, and he lost a shoe in the process.

Now Justin Dowell of the USA will make his run.

Bar-spin downside tailwhip. Big flair. Now a triple-bar back flip, then a slow 360 in the transition.

A Twix! His signature trick – a bar-spin tailwhip.

A couple of 360s late on, one with a no-hander and one with a look-back.

88.35 is the American’s score. Surprisingly low, all things considered. Maybe down to a lack of height, and some slight technical miscues?

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

13:43

Alex Pattle

Argentina’s Jose Torres Gil with a lovely run, but did he lose steam at the end?

He doesn’t quite nail his last trick, slipping on the pedals as he lands, but will it count anyway? He appeared to just miss the final buzzer as he was going for that last effort...

It will count! And he notches 94.82, a HUGE score!

He takes an early lead. Pressure on Reilly already...

Now Rimu Nakamura is up for Japan. He starts with a windscreen wiper flip, then lands a 720.

Nakamura just misjudges a landing on his next effort, before hitting another windscreen wiper in the transition.

Now a no-hander, into a turn with a bar spin. Late on he hits a downside whip then a flair!

90.35, it’s enough for second place so far...

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

13:39

Alex Pattle

One run down, and it was Latvia’s Ernests Zebolds who got us started with a scintillating run.

Already it’s clear that the ambition in the tricks will be so much greater than in the heats.

There was a feeling that these riders were holding something back in the last round. No kidding.

86.04 for Zebolds, before Brazil’s Gustavo Batista de Oliveira records 90.20 with a brilliant run!

Wow... Great stuff from Oliveira.

Olympics 2024: BMX – Kieran Reilly seeks gold for Team GB

13:33

Alex Pattle

Okay, the men’s freestyle BMX park final is beginning as we speak.

Team GB’s Kieran Reilly, 23, is the favourite for gold here, with the world champion having qualified in first place from the heats.

However, France’s Anthony Jeanjean is one to watch.

Whereas the heats were decided by an average score taken from two runs, the best individual score from two runs in the final is all that counts.

It’s been wall-to-wall drama for Team GB this morning. Fair to say they haven’t done things the easy way! But here’s their incredible late comeback in the women’s quad sculls rowing that saw them pip the Dutch boat on the line for gold

Olympics 2024: Djokovic bemoans weather after Koepfer victory

Speaking after his round three win, Djokovic had plenty to say about the state of the Parisian heat and humidity, adding that he hopes he can make the best of the conditions as he hunts for a gold medal.

“I am soaking wet [with sweat] honestly, it is a very humid day today as it was yesterday, I just hope it rains so it cools down the temperature a bit. It is what it is, you have to accept and embrace the conditions. It is the same for you and your opponent so you have to make the best of it,” he said.

“It is a great honour to represent my country at the Olympics, it is an incredible event. We play Roland Garros every year in this stadium but the crowd, the atmosphere, the colours, everything is different, in a good way! The Olympic crowd is just something different, people travel from all over the world to support their athletes. It is just beautiful to see, we are all celebrating sport and I am happy to stay in the tournament.”

In what is perhaps the least surprising headline of the day, Djokovic progresses to round four in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).

Koepfer held his own in the first set before struggling with injury through the second, taking a medical pause about halfway through before fighting through to the end of the match.

Ultimately, a routine day out for Djokovic, with that match lasting just one hour and 37 minutes. He will face Stefano Tsitsipas in round four.

More Team GB action this morning away from the medal rush. The women’s hockey squad have left themselves no margin for error after two early defeats in the pool stage but they got a pivotal 2-1 win over South Africa today to keep their qualification hopes alive.

South Africa led early through Kayla De Waal’s goal from a penalty corner but Amy Costello equalised before half-time. Hannah French then scored what proved to be the winner in the third quarter. The top four teams in each pool go through to the quarter-finals and Team Gb are currently fourth in Pool B.

Olympics 2024: Boxing

One of the sports where things haven’t been rosy for Team GB in Paris so far is boxing. They sent six boxers to Paris and the first four to compete all lost in their opening bout, albeit a couple were robbed in terms of the decision.

A fifth Brit was in action a little while ago and sadly, it was more of the same. Chantelle Reid was taking on Morocco’s Khadija Mardi in the women’s -75kg category and Reid looked impressive early on but eventually lost a split decision as the judges ruled 3:2 in Mardi’s favour.

It means Lewis Richardson is GB’s final boxing hope tomorrow to avoid a clean sweep of opening losses.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is continuing his solemn march towards an Olympic gold medal, currently leading Germany’s Dominic Koepfer by one set to love in his third round match.

Djokovic currently holds a two game to love lead in set two, which would imply that he probably will not be on court for too much longer.

He beat arch-rival Rafael Nadal in straight sets on Monday after cruising through a round one match against Australia’s Matthew Ebden, who was playing his first competitive singles match for two years.

Olympics 2024: Women’s quadruple sculling - “Its quite overwhelming to experience this”

The Team GB crew speak on their incredible at-the-death victory.

Lola Anderson, speaking through tears: "It just feels like it's been ages working towards this. You kind of get to the end of a cycle like this, and it doesn't get bigger than this. It's kind of overwhelming to experience."

She's asked about the story of her writing down the goal of winning Olympic gold – on a piece of paper that her father rescued a couple of years ago. He has since sadly passed away.

"Thirteen years ago... I'd forgotten about it obviously, but a couple of years ago my dad reminded me. I know that he'd be so, so proud. I'm thinking about him a lot right now."

Anderson’s teammate Hannah Scott added: “I don't even know if I'm emotional yet, I think that will come. I think I've just been trying to play it really cool. We knew, we had the confidence, we had done so many hard miles in training. If you think you can [do something], you might just one day, that's the cool thing about the Olympics."

Olympics 2024: Triathlon - Alex Yee makes Sam Dickinson vow for relay

“Yes, definitely,” Yee says when asked if Sam Dickinson, his Team GB teammate played a vital role pacing him. “He has been my housemate growing up, through Uni and freshers, so special.

“This guy, we lived together for two to three years, he got me out of bed a few times. I’m so proud of him. We’ll share a relay team together. We’ll try make this guy’s dreams come true later on.”

While Dickinson adds: “What a day, Alex is special. Alex won, I didn’t win, stepping off the course, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. It’s not about me, helping a mate achieve his dreams, is special.”

Olympics 2024: Women’s quadruple sculling - Team GB take gold in photo finish!

Unbelievable scenes on the water in Paris! Team GB could not have left it any later than that. After sitting in second for the vast majority of the race, an unbelievable surge in the final 100m saw Team GB snatch gold by a matter of inches, stealing the victory from the Netherlands on the final stroke of the race in what was an absolutely thrilling conclusion. Moments like that are what the Olympics is all about.

Though Great Britain trailed by 1.16 seconds at the halfway point, their final margin of victory was just 0.15 seconds, a loss which will live long in the memories of the Netherlands crew.

The Dutch boat look absolutely gutted, a stark contrast to the uninhibited jubilation in the British boat.

In third place is Germany, with Switzerland, Ukraine and China completing the order.

Alex Yee left it late. Oh so late! But here’s how he finally reeled in Hayden Wilde to take the most spectacular of triathlon gold medals with an incredible comeback.

“I don’t even know, I have so much respect for Hayden,” Yee tells Eurosport. “Fair play to him, an amazing athlete, two laps in I thought silver was on the cards. I owed it to myself to give one last chance and I gave it everything I had.

“So proud to do everything for my family, my girlfriend Liv, so many people worked for this. I’m the lucky one to do this.

“I was in a bad place, to be fair, I wanted to do a swim, bike and run, the run was really hard, I was going through a bad patch. No matter how perfect it is, I rode the wave, one more time.”

A quick breakdown of that final move from Alex Yee.

At 8.55km into the run New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde led ahead of Yee. The final kilometre saw the Brit turn up the heat and he sprinted to the finish with a 4:27 km.

Wilde’s time over the same distance was 4:45. Those 18 seconds were the difference.

After a 1500m swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run that is all it came down to. A 1km sprint finish. Incredible.

Olympics 2024: Women’s quadruple sculling

All is not lost for Team GB rowing! It is time for the women’s quadruple finals, contested by China Ukraine, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, and Switzerland.

The men missed out on a medal just moments ago. Can the women go one better?

That was about as routine a race as you will ever see from the Netherlands, who win their second consecutive gold medal in quadruple sculling. They shot into the lead from the off and held on to it throughout, cruising over the line half a length ahead of Italy, who crossed the line second less than a tenth of a second second ahead of Poland.

It is a tough loss to take for the Team GB crew, who kept the leaders honest throughout the race, with a late surge not quite doing enough to truly worry the podium finishers. A lack of stamina came into play, perhaps, as a drop in pace in the last 100m or so saw the gap to a podium spot extend to almost two seconds.

Germany cross the line in fifth, while Switzerland bring up the rear in sixth.
