PENAMPANG: One of the two schoolboys who was reported missing after being swept away by strong currents in the Kg Pogunon river, on Saturday, was found along the Kg Pagansakan Inobong riverbank, Sunday.

The body of Harold Walter, 17, was found at 2.45pm by a villager who happened to go down to the river to check his fishing nets.

It is understood that the body was covered in sand and rubble of bamboo trees.

Penampang District Police Chief, DSP Mohd Haris Ibrahim, when met at the location confirmed the discovery.

He said the body was identified by family members. “The body was then taken to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (QEH1) for further action,” he said.

The search and rescue team led by Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) stopped its operations at 6.45pm Sunday and would start to look for the other schoolboy, Tomansi Olaf, at 6.30am today (Monday).

Daily Express reported that Four Form Five students of SM St Michael were safe while two others went missing when they went for a swim in Sungai Timpangoh, Kg Pogunon, at about 4pm on Saturday.

The boys, all aged 17, were supposed to play football but since it was cancelled, decided to go for a swim in the river during heavy rain when it happened.
