SHAH ALAM - An individual has been detained to assist investigations into a fight that left a man dead in Jalan Mandolin 33/5, Taman Alam Megah here on Tuesday.
Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said police received information about the incident through a public call reporting a fight at the location.
He said initial investigations found the incident is believed to have occurred at about 2pm.
The case first came to public attention after a dashcam video went viral on social media, showing several individuals running at the scene while two others lay on the road in Section 28 here, in what was believed at the time to be a slashing incident.
The status of the two individuals and the cause of the incident could not immediately be confirmed.
Sarudin said a check of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage later showed a group of men fighting before a slashing broke out among them.
"A vehicle, a blue Perodua Alza, was also detected hitting one of the suspects, causing the man to die at the scene," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the case was subsequently referred to the Shah Alam district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department operations team to track down those involved.
"As a result of the team's efforts, a man who is an Indian national was successfully detained to assist investigations," he said.
Sarudin said the Shah Alam district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division has opened an investigation paper, with the case being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said police have asked the public not to speculate on the incident or on any individuals involved.
"Members of the public with information can contact the senior investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Shamsiah Noor Zakaria, at 012-8308706, or any nearby police station," he said.
