A man waiting at a tram stop in north-eastern Berlin was killed when two cars crashed near the stop and were hurled onto the platform as a result on Tuesday, according to the police and fire brigade.
The man was struck and killed by a pole that had been knocked over by one of the cars involved in the accident, spokesmen for the police and fire brigade said.
Four more people were injured in the accident at the Greifswalder Strasse stop in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg neighbourhood, including occupants of the car, a police spokesman said.
A car travelling on Greifswalder Strasse, a major thoroughfare, towards the city centre collided with another car at about 10:10 am (0810 GMT). The impact sent both cars flying onto the platform of the tram stop.
At least two people sustained serious injuries in the crash and have been hospitalized, the police spokesman said.
There were initially no further details available on the identity of the victims.
Counsellors were providing support to witnesses of the accident. Tram services into the city centre have been suspended.
