Only Murders in the Building season 5 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated series of the 2025 television roster. This shouldn’t surprise anyone, especially since all four previous instalments of the Hulu series weren’t just critically acclaimed but also a hit among viewers. Leads Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are joined by a battery of star-studded returning characters. Among them are Michael Cyril Creighton as Howard Morris, James Caverly as Theodore “Theo” Dimas Jr. and Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin. Téa Leoni, who made a brief appearance in the season 4 finale, will reprise her role as Sofia Caccimelio.
But all eyes are on the new cast members who will appear in the series for the first time. Two Hollywood heavyweights are among the names: Christoph Waltz and Renée Zellweger. Both Waltz and Zellweger are Academy Award winners. With Streep already a main cast member of the show, Only Murders in the Building now has three Oscar-winning A-listers in its line-up.

Also among new cast members are Logan Lerman of the Percy Jackson (2010–2013) film series fame, Beanie Feldstein of Lady Bird (2017) and Booksmart (2019) fame, and actor-comedians Jermaine Fowler and Keegan-Michael Key. What could be the plot of Only Murders in the Building season 5?

Season 4 of the show ended with the mysterious death of Lester (Teddy Coluca), the doorman of Arconia — the building in which Mabel, Charles and Oliver live. Lester’s body was found in a fountain outside the building, which was discovered by the trio.
It is therefore expected that the plot of season 5 of Only Murders in the Building will revolve around Lester’s death. The other angle in the season will be the disappearance of Sofia’s husband, Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, who is connected to the Caputo crime family.
At the same time, the season will also focus on things happening in New York City in the present.
“Season 5 will hit on some very current things going on within New York, specifically very relevant things that are happening in the city right now, in ways that honestly we couldn’t have even predicted,” co-creator John Hoffman told TheWrap in October 2024.
John Hoffman added that the fifth season will also be about “classic meets modern”, like previous seasons.
Is there a premiere date for Only Murders in the Building season 5?
No, Hulu has not announced an official release date for Only Murders in the Building season 5. However, reports suggest that the season will likely debut sometime in the second half of 2025. It will have 10 episodes.
Production on the fifth season began in March. Speaking to Collider in the second week of June 2025, Dan Fogelman, the executive producer of the show, said, “I’ve seen six of the ten episodes already. We’re almost done shooting the season as we speak.”
Season 4 had a production run from March to June 2024. The fourth season premiered on Hulu in August of the same year.
