Kota Kinabalu: The Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday that only one senior student had scolded Zara Qairina Mahathir during a confrontation at a hostel dormitory the night before she was found unconscious on the hostel grounds.
Testifying as the 83rd witness, investigating officer Inspector Wong Yew Zhung told counsel Shahlan Jufri that his investigation concluded only one senior reprimanded Zara, who was crying after being accused of stealing.
Inspector Wong confirmed that while he determined Zara was crying during the incident, he could not recall whether some witnesses had stated she was crying while others claimed she was not.
Inspector Wong further informed Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan that he was only aware of the initial two of five internal investigations conducted by the school’s disciplinary unit on July 17 or 18, 2025, after receiving five confessions of senior students mentioned to him by Cingular Azhari.
The court had previously heard on Nov 27, 2025, from assistant chief discipline teacher Nurul Syahadah Ibrahim, that police were never informed of the five internal probes conducted by the school on July 16, July 17, Aug 4, Aug 5, and Aug 13, 2025.
