Oodie’s dressing gown has more to offer than just cosiness – I put it to the test

The days are getting chillier, and long nights are just around the corner, so you may be thinking that it’s about time your dressing gown comes out of hibernation. From getting ready for work on a frosty morning to settling down on the sofa for an evening in, a comfortable dressing gown is a non-negotiable for most in the winter season.

Oodie has built its reputation on super soft, blanket hoodies, and its sherpa dressing gown is no different. Combining a fluffy fleece exterior with a plush sherpa fleece lining, it’s designed to keep you snug without the faff of wrestling with a traditional pullover Oodie. Better still, its bright colourways are a great way to inject a little colour into the dreary days ahead, and bring a cheerful pop to a relaxing evening at home.

After testing it through some particularly chilly evenings, here are my thoughts on whether The Oodie dressing gown is worth it.

  • Care: Machine wash on a cold, gentle cycle; suitable for tumble drying

The promise of being wrapped in a fluffy dressing gown is enough to pull you out of even the cosiest of beds in the winter. It needs to feel soft against the skin, provide enough warmth when the temperature drops and, ideally, be practical enough to wear throughout the day (no judgement here). The Oodie sherpa dressing gown hits the nail on the head with these requirements, combining a super soft thick fabric with added features that make everyday lounging a little more practical.

The first thing I noticed was the material. The fleece exterior feels buttery soft, while the sherpa fleece lining adds a thicker, fluffier layer of warmth. The hood provides another layer of coverage, with extra fabric around the neck even when it’s resting down. Meanwhile, the thick, elasticated cuffs help keep warmth in and prevent the sleeves from constantly slipping down your forearms.

That last detail might sound minor, but I found that it made a noticeable difference when going through my morning routine. If you’re tired of your sleeves falling forwards and getting soaked while you wash your face, then the Oodie’s secure cuffs are a great addition to help keep everything in place.

The wrap-around design is also a nice change from the traditional pullover Oodie. While the original goes over your head like a hoodie, the dressing gown is easy to put on, take off and adjust. Though a minor change, it’s useful when you’re getting dressed or moving between lounging and working from home. It’s also a more convenient option if you need to look presentable for a quick video call without changing out of your comfortable layers entirely.

The belt has also been thoughtfully designed. Rather than being completely separate, it fastens to the back of the gown with a button, helping to keep it centred while reducing the risk of losing it in the washing machine. It’s a small but sensible touch that makes washing and storing the dressing gown less of a hassle.

Looks-wise, there’s a wide selection of patterned and plain designs to suit every taste, so you can opt for something neutral or choose a print that adds a little personality to your loungewear collection. The rose and white stripes feel like a great addition if you’re a fan of the dopamine dressing trend. Either way, the emphasis is on an ultra-soft finish that feels indulgent enough to make an ordinary evening at home feel more luxurious.

The Oodie dressing gown is perfect for times when you want to stay warm without needing to turn on the heating. Whether you’re enjoying a slow weekend morning, winding down after a busy day or spending an evening wrapped up on the sofa, it provides an easy throw-on layer for colder weather. While wearing a dressing gown won’t replace adequate heating in a cold home, it can help you feel more comfortable while relaxing indoors.

  • Why I love it: Buttery-soft fleece, a warm Sherpa lining, easy wrap-around design, secure cuffs and a belt that attaches at the back, choice of plain and patterned styles
  • Take note: May feel too warm if you prefer a lightweight dressing gown

Is the Oodie dressing gown worth it?

The Oodie sherpa dressing gown is an ideal robe if comfort is at the top of your priority list. Its combination of soft fleece and a fluffy sherpa lining gives it the snug feel you’d expect from the brand, while the hood and elasticated cuffs provide extra coverage when temperatures dip.

What makes it a winner, though, is the attention to detail often brushed over in dressing gown designs. The easy-to-adjust wrap-around fit makes it more convenient than a pullover style, while the secure cuffs help keep sleeves out of the way during everyday tasks. The button-fastened belt is another smart addition, preventing it from becoming a loose extra that can easily go missing in the wash.

It’s not the most lightweight choice for those who prefer something thin and breathable, but if you want a fluffy dressing gown for lazy mornings, cool evenings and comfortable days working from home, it’s a strong contender.
