Anthony Loke has just described the government as running on "crisis mode" due to the energy crisis induced by the war in Iran.

He says that though Malaysians haven't felt the impact of the crisis in our daily life just yet, it is coming, and it is "very serious".

“As mentioned by the prime minister this morning, we must adapt to the fact that we are actually in a crisis. This is not something to be taken lightly or joked about; it is a very serious matter.

“Even though at this moment our lights are still on and petrol stations are operating normally without supply concerns, this is something Malaysians cannot take lightly because the impact is felt worldwide.

“Our existing supply will not be interrupted until May, but if the war continues, we cannot guarantee that the supply will not be disrupted. This is something we all need to pay attention to.

“Each of us has a responsibility to ensure we survive and do not waste resources. No resource is unlimited,” he said.

“The government not only needs to prepare itself… It also needs to prepare the public,” he said.

I absolutely agree with Anthony. I would say that the government is in crisis mode indeed.

In the way I see it , Many Malaysians were already an unhappy lot even before the crisis. Many of us are unhappy because we find it much easier to become resentful, angry, disturbed, upset and frustrated in our daily lives, then we find it to be loving, delighted, at peace, calm or hopeful.

Most of us also don't believe that we can be successful, because almost all of us are to the view that our country is a corrupt place where almost every field of contest is rigged. No matter how good we are, we don't think we can succeed by merit alone - we also need to have the right connections or be willing to humiliate ourselves by flattering the "powers that be", so that the corruption that is rampant and the contest that is rigged will work in our favour, instead of always working against it.

A large number of us actually are actually bearing with our lives , because we are hopeful to strike a deal in the market.

Whether it is the job market or the share market or the property market, most of us are just bearing with our lives here because we are hopeful that the deals we are able to make in a market here, will somehow make everything worthwhile - that if we can just make enough sweet deals, we will be able to forget that we are unhappy and frustrated, or that the our country is corrupt and every field we enter is rigged, and be content with the deals we made.

There are some of us who can't even make a good deal in the market, but though their numbers are rising, they are still a minority.

If it was up to them, they would have brought everything down, but being the minority, they have to keep their frustration in check, because they can't afford to upset the majority, who still want the markets to be open, so that they can make the deals that they want in it.

This energy crisis that we are facing however, will likely cause the economy to be so adversely affected, that a lot of markets are going on to closed.

When enough of the markets are closed, the number of people who can't even get a good deal is going to rise.

If it rises to the point that there are more people that can't make a worthwhile deal in the market than there are people who can, it will be those who can't make a deal that will be a majority .

And if it is those who can't get a deal in the marker that is the majority, as sure as night follows day, they are going to bring everything down.

Imagine what is going to happen to the government, Anthony, when your government has to stand against a majority of the people in the country who want to bring everything down, even when the government is dependent on the majority to exist.

I reckon you are going to be so stressed by the situation, you might regret ever entering politics.

So yeah, Anthony, you are absolutely right - the government is in a crisis mode, and things are very serious, even if it has not affected our daily lives yet.

It is so bad, I reckon you might need to make preparations for an emergency, but even that might not solve your problem.

In 1969, an emergency might have solved a crisis level problem, but at that time political leaders were trusted and respected , and almost all the institutions in the country had an unblemished reputation.

Today, from the army to the anti corruption agency, every institution in the country is tainted by corruption.

Today, if you show me a political leader that is trusted and respected, I might just book you a Grab to take you home, for it will be obvious to me that you had too much to drink.

If I were to put in visual terms, I would say that the shit has already hit the fan.

It has not drenched the government in filth just yet, because the government is standing a few meters away from the fan.

But make no mistake, the shit is heading towards the government , and when it hits, and it will surely hit, you and all of your colleagues, Anthony, are going to have one helluva crisis indeed.
