Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent comments on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe against former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and his wife, Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, are not just "highly prejudicial," as their lawyers have rightfully stated—they are a gross injustice and a blatant disregard for the principles of a fair legal process.

Anwar's repeated public criticism of Daim, implying guilt without any court verdict, is nothing short of character assassination. By rallying public opinion against Daim and criticizing the opposition's supposed silence on the matter, Anwar is not only overstepping his bounds but also abusing his position as prime minister to influence the ongoing legal process.

The lawyers are correct in highlighting that every individual, including Daim, is entitled to a fair and unbiased legal process. Yet, Anwar's statements not only undermine this principle but also disrespect the court and the investigative process. His remarks could unduly pressure the MACC and taint the impartiality of the legal proceedings.

Anwar's actions are not just unbecoming of a prime minister but also dangerous for the rule of law in Malaysia. His attempts to portray Daim in a negative light and insinuate his guilt before any legal verdict is a blatant violation of the fundamental principle of “innocent until proven guilty.”

It is time for Anwar to remember that his duty as prime minister is to uphold justice and the rule of law, not to use his position to settle personal scores or influence legal outcomes. The legal process must be allowed to proceed without interference or prejudice, and individuals, including Daim, must be treated fairly and impartially.

In conclusion, Anwar's unjust attacks on Daim Zainuddin highlight a troubling disregard for the principles of fairness and justice. The prime minister must be held accountable for his actions and reminded of his duty to respect the legal process and the rights of individuals. Anything less undermines the very foundation of democracy and the rule of law in Malaysia.
