Is it time for the country, Malaysia to step out of the shadows of BN / UMNO, PKR, DAP, PAS, GPS, GRS, Warisan?
For years, all these political parties focused their campaigns on the alleged threats posed by others against the race and religion.
And for years, 60+ years, BN/UMNO’s good fortune was that they have the lack of a credible opposition.
And for years, rural areas said to be eternal and impregnable were BN / UMNO and PAS strongholds.
Rafizi’s podcast called YBM (originally standing for Yang Bakar Menteri, but later adapted to Yang Berhenti Menteri after he stepped down from his Cabinet position) premiered in early 2024 and was relaunched in 2025, streams regularly on his official platforms, with episodes diving into national issues, economic reforms, and political developments appears to have exerted a lot of pressure with condemnation on the corruption and moral bankruptcy of the country’s political leaders – deploying a typical populist style – but also repeatedly highlights the madani government’s failure to improve citizens’ standards of living.
In many respects, Rafizi’s message was nothing new.
The great novelty was the man himself.
BN / UMNO, PKR, DAP, and PAS are all trapped in their own race and religion politics.
If Bersama were to triumph in the next GE, young Malaysians are also sending a clear message to these political parties that their approach all these years are a total failure.
PMX’s influence peaked when he was asked by the YDP Agong to lead the unity government when no parties or coalition managed to secure an outright majority to form a government in Nov 2022.
Of late, in the last few months, it has been a story of PMX’s isolation with various undisguised attempts made within the Madani government to destabilise the government from within.
In the 16th GE, let’s pray that the young Malaysians show the world that the country’s democratic backsliding is reversible.
Let the Kancil be a symbol of the change of era for Malaysia.
And long established political parties consign to their new image – that of a relic from another era.
