An article titled `Negeri Sembilan: Battle Lines Redrawn | The new political equation: What the maths shows about the likely outcome of GE16 in Peninsular Malaysia published in a business weekly recently said if the maths is proven right, BN and PN will have 10 seats more than the simple majority of 112 seats needed to form the government in the 16th GE, meaning they also do not need any help from other parties, including Sabah and Sarawak to form the next government.
The article postulated that the numbers show that in GE16, PN will likely win 66 seats and BN 56, giving this alliance of erstwhile rivals 122 seats in the 222-seat parliament — enough to form the government on their own.
Since Bersatu is expected to be shut out from the coalition, effectively PAS, Wawasan & Gerakan are the only members in PN.
If PN is to win 66 seats as projected, they will easily dwarf BN/UMNO who was projected to win 56 seats only.
If so, isn’t it obvious that the candidate for the 11th PM should be from PAS?
Who will that be?
Datuk Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, the present Mentri Besar of Terengganu and also the Chairman of PN?
Or Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Muda the Deputy President of PAS since June 2015 and previously was the Minister of Environment and Water from March 2020 to November 2022 under the administrations of PM8 andf PM9?
Or Datuk Seri Takiyuddin bin Hassan, PAS Secretary General, Member of Parliament of Kota Bharu and formerly the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Parliament and Law under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's administration from March 2020 to August 2021?
Yes, agreed that the article is purely speculative but one can’t deny or reject the basis for which the article used to arrive at its conclusion.
Anyway, ultimately elections determine who forms a government.
But before that, it is the voters who will decide who they will vote for.
Can’t wait for PAS to take a leading role and lead this country for the 1st time in their long and chequered history in politics in Malaysia.
It will be easier and probably allow those undecided voters to decide before hand if PAS can demonstrate some magnanimity by naming their candidate for PM if PAS wins and win big in the 16th GE.
Go PAS.
The ordinary rakyat and fence sitters need and have a right to know who will be leading them for the next 5 years.
PAS should not be coy about the identity of their preferred candidate.
Just like any other political party, PAS exist with the objective of ruling the country one day.
And looks like that day is coming soon.
