What was his admission?
Apparently, in a statement, the Negeri Sembilan MB himself admitted that he was forced to sign a proclamation, “unwillingly and under coercion (duress)” seeking to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the state ruler.
The MB probably thought or have this belief that admitting the duress honestly can be viewed as an act of transparency and by exposing the coercion publicly, he invalidates the legitimacy of the signed document, as agreements made under duress are legally and ethically void.
And then he lodged a police report to enable the authorities to conduct an investigation.
Investigate what?
Who `forced’ the MB to sign the proclamation?
How did the person or persons `forced’ the MB to sign the proclamation?
In extreme situations—such as hostage crises, coups, or immediate physical threats to the leader, their family, or citizens—signing a document under duress might be the only way to prevent bloodshed or catastrophic loss of life.
Were threats, physical or otherwise used to coerce the MB to force him to sign?
A leader's core duty is to act as a free agent on behalf of their people.
If a leader can be forced into signing documents against their will, it demonstrates that external forces or adversaries hold ultimate control over his decisions.
His admission that he was acting under duress can severely damage his credibility and authority.
How does he expect the people and voters of Negeri Sembilan to continue to have confidence in his ability to protect and lead the people of Negeri Sembilan?
Acknowledging that coercion worked already signal his weakness potentially inviting further pressure, blackmail, or manipulation in the future.
The moving of the pen on the piece of paper is not to the point.
It is merely an expression of proof that the MB was willing to do something.
He can invalidate the expression, but it does not change the underlying issue of what may or may not actually require his signature.
If he has any integrity and morals, he should just tender his resignation as the MB immediately.
