Former Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad was sentenced to six years in prison and fined RM15.45 million after the Federal Court reinstated his conviction on nine corruption charges in February 2026.
His offense was for receiving over RM3 million in cash kickbacks regarding Felda Investment Corporation's controversial purchase of the Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching, Sarawak.
Tan Sri Isa Mohd Samad has already exhausted all conventional court appeals and judicial reviews available for him.
A royal pardon remains his only remaining avenue of relief to be excused from his sentence.
As the corruption offenses were committed in Kuala Lumpur, the application must be directed to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the King of Malaysia), who acts on the advice of the Federal Territories Pardons Board.
Recently, PMX states that neither he or the unity government paved the way or exerted undue influence on the application made by PM6 to the Pardons Board.
PMX also states that every prisoner, just like PM6 holds the fundamental right to appeal for a royal pardon.
For the record, PM6 applied and was pardoned twice.
The Federal Court of Malaysia officially dismissed PM6’s final appeal on August 23, 2022, of 12 years in prison and a RM210 million fine and ordered him to immediately begin serving his sentence.
This sentence was modified twice by the Federal Territories Pardons Board.
1st, in Jan 2024, PM6 received his first royal pardon which halved his original 12-year prison sentence to six years and reduced his RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
He received a second pardon, a conditional pardon on September 18, 2026, which allows him to serve the remainder of that six-year sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, strictly contingent upon paying the RM50 million fine.
The pardons given to PM6 already set a clear precedent.
And as PMX said, every prisoner holds the fundamental right to appeal for a royal pardon.
Tan Sri Isa Mohd Samad is just like every prisoner and he has the same fundamental right.
Just like how the daughter of PM6 described PM6, her father is getting old and she wants him spend time as a grandfather and play with his grandchildren.
The family of Tan Sri Isa Mohd Samad shared the same sentiment i.e their father is also getting old and they want him to spend time with his grandchildren.
