The candidates from BN/UMNO and PN that you voted in to govern your state on 1 August 2026 has revealed themselves as a `wolf in sheep's clothing'.
Wolf in sheep’s clothing in the Cambridge Dictionary is described as someone or something that seems to be good but is actually not good at all.
During the campaign for the elections in Negeri Sembilan on 1 Aug 2026, UMNO and BN framed themselves as the authentic defenders of Malay leadership and traditional institutions.
UMNO/BN leaders argued that their party possessed the pragmatic understanding and structural knowledge required to uphold and defend the sanctity of the customs and the royal institution from external political mismanagement.
These leaders repeatedly stressed that while they strongly supported the royal institution and state customs, they would respect the palace and remain independent of internal royal disputes.
They campaigned on the promise that a vote for BN would ensure a state government that properly respects the state's constitutional boundaries and customary laws.
In short, UMNO and BN told voters that they should choose their candidates because they offered stability and institutional respect.
They positioned themselves as the safest choice to protect Negeri Sembilan's delicate, centuries-old social fabric, promising that a vote for them would guarantee that the state’s royal heritage, traditional chieftains, and Adat Perpatih guidelines remain firmly protected under the law.
On 24 July 2026, BN/UMNO Chief for Negeri Sembilan told a KiniTV podcast that Negeri Sembilan BN believes it can help facilitate the best possible resolution to the ongoing royal dispute involving the state's four chieftains and its ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, if the coalition is given the mandate to govern the state again.
Then post election and only 1 day after the MB, who is from UMNO was sworn in as the Mentri Besar, he signed a proclamation on 3 August 2026, which he claimed, later, after 30 days it was 1st signed, that he signed it under duress, to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
And the coup de grace?
The State Exco, on 16 Sept 2026, announced that the removal of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan is official.
Is that what the UMNO Chief for Negeri Sembilan meant when he said once UMNO/BN is voted in, they will help facilitate the best possible resolution i.e remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, something which UMNO was pushing for prior to the elections on 1 Aug 2026?
One may recall that in April 2026, the 4 Undangs signed an initial proclamation claiming to remove Tuanku Muhriz and declaring Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'afar as his successor.
The incumbent Menteri Besar at the time, Aminuddin Harun (from Pakatan Harapan), refused to recognize the chieftains' decree, citing that one of the chieftains had already been sacked.
In response, all 14 UMNO-Barisan Nasional state assemblymen withdrew their support for MB Aminuddin Harun, directly citing his handling of the royal dispute.
This collapse of confidence paralyzed the state government and forced the snap state election that took place on August 1, 2026
Indirectly, it was the 357,469 voters in Negeri Sembilan who voted for BN/UMNO and PN that now facilitated the removal of Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
