……..the public is still waiting for an update on the investigation by the police on the report filed by Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Lasim that he was forced to sign a document seeking the removal of the state's ruler.

On 14 Sept 2026, you were, reportedly quoted, to have said the investigation of the police report lodged by the Negeri Sembilan Mentri Besar who claimed he was forced under duress to sign a document seeking the removal of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir was ongoing and updates would be shared with the media as the case progressed.

2 weeks has since passed from that day.

In less than few days, it wouId be Oct 2026.

And then Nov 2026 would be next.

The public is asking are there any progress on the investigation?

On the surface, this doesn’t look like a complicated case where the authorities need to follow the money trail and seek the cooperation for mutual legal assistance from overseas.

The Mentri Besar claimed he was coerced into signing a document.

Obviously. in his report with the police, he would be required and would have to state who and how did they coerced him.

To claim that he was coerced into signing a document, the Mentri Besar must prove that his consent was not given freely and that the pressure used against him matches the strict legal definition of coercion.

E.g the person or those who coerced him have and showed him evidence they have of him performing some immoral activities?

Under Section 15 of the Contracts Act 1950, coercion means doing or threatening to do a crime under the Penal Code, or unlawfully holding someone's property to force them to sign. Ordinary business stress, hard bargaining, or heavy persuasion do not count as legal coercion.

The authorities would just have to call up and interview the said person or persons whom the Mentri Besar claimed he was coerced by.

The authorities would then collect text messages, emails, audio or video recordings, or names of witnesses who saw the threat or pressure

The said person or persons would obviously deny such preposterous claim.

Then the next logical step would be to evaluate whether the Mentri Besar who claimed coercion by filing a police report detailing how he was forced to sign a document, fabricated the claim.

If the authorities find the claim is fabricated, the Mentri Besar can indeed be prosecuted for lodging a false report under Section 182 of the Malaysian Penal Code which carries a prison term of up to 6 months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

The public and ordinary rakyat are still waiting and hopefully the Minister would not take too long to revert and update the country.
