In a viral video featuring Mahathir, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad acccused Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin of having stolen party funds and kept the money at his home.
How did Muhyiddin react? Well, I must say that Muhyiddin's reaction has been very odd and bewildering - like a dog that is barking and baring its teeth while wagging its tail at you at the same time — you don’t know which end to believe.
On one hand, Muhyiddin is categorically denying Mahathir’s accusation. He said that all party contributions were deposited into official Bersatu accounts and managed transparently by the treasurer-general. He also lamented that Mahathir had never raised the matter with him privately before making such a serious public accusation.
“In the many meetings I have had with him, he has never raised this matter with me in person,” Muhyiddin said, as if he is heart broken that Mahathir had met him on many occasion as a well wisher , while believing him to be a thief all along.
On the other hand, despite being accused of stealing party funds, Muhyiddin said he continued to respect Mahathir and supports his efforts to foster Malay unity. He even went on to say:
“For that reason, I have no intention of taking legal action against Mahathir.”
You know, they say that one of the primary signs that one is suffering from a mental illness is that one’s thought processes become extremely tortuous and complicated.
Regardless of whether it is depression, anxiety, delusions of grandeur, or any other form of psychological illness, one thing that is similar in all psychological problems is complication, it is said, is that we we will be possessed by a tendency of complicating even the simplest thing.
Following that line of thinking, I think Muhyiddin should perhaps listen to the demands of Bersatu’s members, resign, and perhaps seek some professional help regarding his psychological state.
I think so , because to respect someone who thinks that you are a thief, while denying that you are a thief, and refusing to challenge their description of you as a thief, while at the same time claiming that you will work together with them to foster a noble cause, is so complicated and bewildering in so many ways that I am quite sure you have to be in a state of psychosis for any of this to make sense.
The simple way of looking at it is this: if someone calls you a thief and you are not a thief, you will confront them or at least sever ties with them — not respect them.
Also, the last thing you will want to do is foster anything noble with them.
You will not want to foster anything noble with them because if they are right, you are a thief; and if they are not, then they are a liar. And you must be severely psychologically compromised, to believe that anything noble can be fostered between a thief and a liar.
