Rafizi and Nik Nazmi are reminding me of a line from a Bob Dylan song.
"When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose...."
How true - Rafizi, Nik Nazmi and Bersama indeed have nothing to lose and everything to win in the Johor election - so it is indeed well for them to join in the fray in Johor.
“The Johor polls provide an opportunity to introduce the fledgling movement to voters while allowing us to build and assess its election machinery ahead of future contests,” Rafizi said yesterday.
According to Malaysia Kini, Three PKR Members of Parliament in Johor known that are aligned to Rafizi are Akmal Nasrullah Nasir (Johor Bahru), Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (Ledang), and Onn Abu Bakar (Batu Pahat).
Malaysia Kini also predicts that one seat that will most likely be contested by Bersama is Stulang.
According to election data, Stulang is a non-Malay majority seat with 53.3 percent Chinese voters, 4.9 percent Indian voters, and 37.8 percent Malay voters — it is a composition that, at least in terms of ethnic distribution, has the potential to be won by Bersama.
Malaysia Kini also predicts that Bersama is likely to target Larkin, which is currently held by Umno, Tangkak, which is currently held by DAP; Buloh Kasap (UMNO) and Jementah (DAP) in Segamat; as well as Bukit Batu (PKR) in Kulai, Layang-Layang (UMNO) in Simpang Renggam, and Kempas (UMNO) in Pulai.
I am from Tangkak, so I don't think that Bersama will make much of an inroad in Tangkak, but saying that, I don't think that Bersama has to win in Tangkak to win either .
It just needs to win in one seat to win.
And even better, even if it loses in all of the seats that it contests in, it still won't be seen as a loser, as long as it enters the fray in high spirits.
Bersatu is barely a month old after all - nobody expects the baby to take the crown.
But if the baby enters with vigorous, by the next election, it will be seen by the voters as a high spirited and energetic youth, who might do well for the people and the country, if given a chance.
Anyway, Rafizi has also announced that Bersama will be launching its nationwide “Jelajah Kancil” roadshow in Johor on June 6.
I think the Kancil is very inspired choice for Bersama.
600 hundred years ago, Parameswara started Malacca after a Kancil outmaneuvered and defeated his two larger hunting dogs.
Since then, the Kancil has has been a symbol of victory for the underdogs.
Bersama is going to be up against not two, but three hunting dogs in Johor.
But like the Kancil 600 years ago, who knows, maybe Bersama also will be able to outmaneuver PN, PH and BN, despite its size.
Bersama's age and size is its disadvantage, but if it is as smart as the kancil, it can convert its disadvantage to its advantage.
Its opponents size and age are its advantage, but a smart kancil can force its opponent's advantage to become their disadvantage.
As for me, I would consider that that Bersama simply choosing to participate in the Johor election as a sign that it is already half way to victory.
Now all it has to do is just be seen as daring, vigorous and energetic, and even if loses in every seat it contests, it will still emerge out of the Johor election a Winner.
P/S : I don't think it will lose in every seat in Johor, and I think it should add Skudai into the list of seats that it should try to contest in as well.
