What can Sarawak do?
Nothing.
Since the GE in 2018 where political parties in Sarawak broke away from BN to form their own political coalitions, the political coalitions that emerged from the breakway from BN have become the go to political coalition for collaboration and support by every political coalition in Semenanjung that lacked a simple majority to enable their coalition to occupy Putrajaya on their own.
Petrajaya in Kuching suddenly emerged as a key and instrumental cog for any political coalitions that wish to be the government of the day.
In the course of the last 3 years whereby GRS from Sarawak supported both the PH and BN to form the Federal government, Sarawak has leveraged their support in return for greater autonomy from the Federal government in managing Sarawak’s own affairs.
Implementing MA63 in its entirety was one of those issue that the political parties in Sarawak were seeking.
Sarawak obviously has seen the writing on the walls from the election results in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
Doubt they will want to wait until the elections in Melaka for them to reaffirm their fears.
If the results in Johor and Melaka were to manifest into a nationwide phenomenom in the 16th GE resulting in the combined entity of BN/UMNO and PAS securing enough seats i.e the minimum 121 seats required to form a simple majority, political parties in Sarawak will be completely shut out from the equation and that includes whatever leverage they have over the present Madani government.
If that happens, any ongoing negotiations on MA63 presently probably will be shelved to the back burner, back to the period before 2018.
Possibly a government that comprised of politicians from BN/UMNO and PAS will probably scale back on whatever concessions already granted to the government of Sarawak by the Madani government.
Sarawak is not going to sit down and find out.
It is adopting a pro-active stance.
It could also be a `pressure’ tactic adopted by the Sarawak government to pressure the Madani government into agreeing and resolving every outstanding items presently in return for the political parties in Sarawak to throw their support pre-election to the Madani government allowing PH to go into the 16th GE with the assurance that the 23 seats held by GPS are fully behind them.
Under such circumstances, PH will just focus on delivering no less than 100 seats for them to have a chance in occupying Putrajaya.
It this happens, the next GE will be interesting as it pits the reform forces of PH aligns with the neutral and progressive parties from Sarawak against the established team of BN / UMNO and the might of the East coast states in Semenanjung.
