It is presumed that the majority of the ordinary rakyat, regardless of which political parties or coalition they support, have deep suspicions about the way government works.
The same people conversely, are increasingly enthusiastic about the use of government power.
Many of those who say that government authorities shouldn’t be trusted will agree that the government regulate the people.
The Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) and Sedition Act are examples.
At odds are when politicians are in the opposition and when they are on the receiving ends of both Acts, they will decry the continued use and the existence of both Acts.
If both Acts are as draconian and overextended as they described it to be, how can they, the same politicians who are now part of the government, described it to be trusted to administer matters and their supporters agree with the reasons given by them in continuing with both Acts?
These people tend not to see any contradiction between decrying the failures of the government while simultaneously demanding massive increases in government authority.
To them they do not believe there was any issue.
They could probably be harassing those who are there to criticize.
The political establishment presently is already so bad that the country is at shambles.
Now, one side, i.e: the government side has been telling us that fighting and eradicating corruption is one of their core objectives.
Yet at the same time, events in the past few months do not correlate to this call in fighting and eradicating corruption.
And justification paraded out was as lame as any it can get.
To put it mildly, the justifications was merely to show the world that yes we did not keep quiet. We responded and even if you don’t like or believe it, it is not our issue.
“Question everything” used to be just the sole domain of DAP.
Now it finds a home at the extremes on both ends of the ideological spectrum.
Exposing and decrying abuses of power, corruption, and incompetence should be vital work for all Malaysians, regardless of ideology or partisanship.
Indeed, our institutions frequently fail and merit a highly skeptical attitude about the expansion and use of government power.
Dictatorial paranoia is where a political leader and the inner clique seek to dominate every aspect of society.
Fortunately or unfortunately, we are not alone.
The world is now full of leaders who take more and more power to themselves.
It is linked to the shrinking of the government’s ability to distribute hope among their citizens.
Outside of its legitimate functions, the government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector of the economy.
But yet through the GLCs, it dominated every aspect of the country’s essential sectors, monopolizing and closing off potential competition.
We have no better example of this than the APs issued by the government that conflated the prices of almost every items required and used by the ordinary rakyat over the last 30 years.
The ordinary rakyat has repeatedly asked the government to do away and remove all these APs and free the economy, but yet successive governments not only continued with it but extended it regardless.
Public properties are almost anything a few government planners decide it should be.
The justification often used was to make way for what government officials call a more compatible use of the land.
Almost every public program is a project disguised for the needy but in reality it gives to the greedy.
For the last 2 decades, the politicians claimed they will solve the problems of unemployment through government planning, and the more the plans fail, the more the planners plan.
Every successive new government will tells us they are going to start building public housing units in the hundreds of thousands, but in the end they only built them in the thousands and in some places by the hundreds only.
We have so many people who can't see a fat man standing beside a thin one without coming to the conclusion the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one.
So they're going to solve all the problems of human misery through government and government planning.
But the reverse is true.
Each year the need grows greater, the program grows greater.
Majority of the government’s programs, once launched, generally disappear within a year, never to be heard of again or replaced with another program under the guise of a different name.
The government holds the power of life and death over many businesses or properties and thus it doesn’t mean much whether you hold the title to the properties or your businesses.
Every businessman has his own tale of harassment.
Now they declare war on corruption.
Do they honestly expect us to believe that?
That corruption is suddenly going to disappear by magic?
Politicians and the government practice deception when questioned by civil society and the public on some of its actions and policies.
In the end they always assured the ordinary rakyat that there should be no cause for worry, not because they have any solutions but because as long as they have the power to tax, they could always take away from the people whatever they needed to bail them out of trouble.
Politicians from both sides want to make the ordinary rakyat believe that this is a contest between two men and we are to choose just between two personalities or 2 political coalitions.
Because they are just unwilling to debate all the above issues.
They have come to the end of the road.
There is no honesty and fairness in any of the present politicians in this country anymore.
This country is now a nation that prefers disgrace to corruption.
Are Malaysians willing to wake up and have the courage to say this is a price we are not prepared to pay?
