Schools were seen as the safest places for children to study, learn, and develop skills, as well as acquire morals. However, there had been a few cases of bullying, sexual assault, and even murder in school recently. The question of whether school is still a safe place is brought up by this.

Whose Fault? Everyone’s Duty

It is straightforward to assign responsibility when such tragedies occur. The public places the responsibility on the parents and some on the school administration. In fact, everyone shares responsibility for safety.

Some kids grow up without constant direction or emotional support at home. Children may come to believe that violence is a common way to deal with frustration or disagreement if love is substituted with neglect, harsh language, or physical punishment. In addition, society has a significant impact. Children's perceptions of right and wrong can be affected by exposure to violent media, cyberbullying, and harmful peer pressure.

Can Fear Ever Teach Values?

According to positive punishment, providing something unpleasant to someone who does bad behaviour can prevent it from happening again. Therefore, some have even proposed bringing back corporal punishment. However, punishment may only stop the wrong behaviour temporarily, and it does not impart understanding, empathy, or self-control. On the other hand, corporal punishment may cause fear-based emotions and childhood trauma.

What can we do?

Everyone has a role to play in making school safety. To assist children in managing their emotions, schools should increase security and offer counselling and emotional education. More education in moral principles, respect, and emotional intelligence is what we need, not more suffering. As education starts at home, parents should raise their children with love, empathy, and consistent discipline. Additionally, society has to cease glorifying aggressiveness and instead encourage compassion, understanding, and mental health care. Every kid may feel secure, respected, and heard in a caring environment when communities, families, and schools collaborate.
