Following a ruling by the High Court rejecting the application by former Prime Minister Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence for corruption at his home, UMNO’s Secretary General reportedly said it is time “to review” the party’s cooperation with the Madani government.
UMNO’s Youth Chief went one step further, calling for UMNO to quit the government.
In fact, this is the 2nd time he said about UMNO / BN’s role in the government.
Earlier, after the elections in Sabah, he said Barisan Nasional (BN) should embrace its role in the Sabah opposition bloc alongside Warisan and Perikatan Nasional (PN) and use that to rebuild public trust.
BN/UMNO however, did not pay heed to his call as one of their leaders accepted and joined the Cabinet in Sabah.
What is UMNO waiting for when 2 of its exalted leaders said the party should review its cooperation with another calling for the party to quit the government?
The Youth Head of UMNO Kota Melaka, however, decries the calls by the 2 leaders as `crying wolf’ in a Facebook posting where he wrote that if the party is really and sincerely hurt with the High Court ruling, all the Ministers and Deputy Ministers that are from UMNO should resign immediately from the Madani government.
UMNO should not cry wolf once too often.
Even political commentator Prof James Chin doubts UMNO will carry out its threat of leaving the Madani government.
In a posting on his Facebook, he opined that this talk about UMNO reviewing or leaving the unity government are just for show, playing to Najib’s base inside Umno.
He is also of the opinion that Umno will never leave the Madani government as they cannot survive outside power.
Even MIC, who was on the receiving end from the UMNO President on their threats to leave the BN coalition is now snickering and taking potshots at UMNO with their threat to leave the Madani government.
Earlier, UMNO was warning MIC to think carefully on their threat to leave BN with their President even warning that once MIC leave the BN coalition, it won’t be easy for them to return to the coalition later.
The public outburst by the 2 leaders from UMNO also revealed why the other 2 component parties in BN are upset with UMNO.
Both leaders only refer to UMNO in their calls.
It not BN.
Was both MIC and MCA consulted and agreed for the calls by the 2 leaders for UMNO to review the party’s cooperation with the Madani government or to quit the government?
Probably both parties don’t care because they are not represented in the Madani government anyway.
MCA is probably gloating in private with their `I told you so’ moment where they forewarned UMNO earlier that if BN is to continue with their cooperation with DAP in the 16th GE, the party will review their position in the BN coalition.
Will UMNO walk away from the Madani government?
Uphold your dignity and exalted position as the leading political party in Malaysia.
Otherwise, UMNO has shown that they are no different from their component partners i.e crybabies.
