Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar confirmed that he signed a proclamation to remove the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, but stated he did so unwillingly and under duress.
According to Straits Times, a Singapore based mainstream media, the day after he was sworn in by Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir on 2 Aug 2026, the MB of Negeri Sembilan met with state’s four Undang, apparently to gain their blessings.
Reportedly, present at the said meeting were the UMNO President, Secretary- General and Law Minister Azalina Othman Said.
Zahid, Asyraf Dusuki and Azalina have since, denied their presence at the said meeting.
Separately, on 8 Sept 2026, the MB issued a statement denying claims that the Umno president was involved in attempts to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Missing in the statement was the MB did not confirm nor denied whether the meeting with the state’s 4 Undangs were true and if true, whether Zahid, Asyraf Dusuki and Azalina were present in the said meeting as reported.
Since Zahid denied he was at the said meeting, the statement from the MB raised further questions on why he needs to explain and clarified that the UMNO President was not involved in attempts to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
So who coerced the MB to sign the proclamation?
Can’t be UMNO since all the big wigs of the party denied their presence at the said meeting between the MB, who is an UMNO member, and the 4 Undangs.
Take an educated guess.
UMNO’s perennial scapegoat, DAP?
Possible.
Because during the campaign for the Negeri Sembilan state elections end July 2026, the Rembau Umno information chief boldly claimed that DAP is “holding” the palace and the state’s powers, to the point where the “dignity” of some communities has been affected.
Yes, the MB of Negeri Sembilan needs to clear the air and erase all doubts on who pressured him to sign the proclamation.
Was it DAP?
DAP is the easiest to blame.
Supporters of UMNO and PAS will lap up this claim easily.
Just like all other allegations against DAP, supporters of UMNO and PAS does not need any proof.
It is always DAP fault.
Probably their supporters might say Straits Times, a Singapore based mainstream media is sympathetic and a mouthpiece of DAP and the article they published was an attempt to seed hatred towards UMNO.
