The thing I can never understand about people like Ridhuan Tee is why they keep obsessing about the people that they left behind.

When I read about it, I can't understand what is annoying him about the entire thing at all. When I look at a Chinese-language banner about the Hungry Ghost Festival, what I think is: "Oh, the Chinese are celebrating the Hungry Ghost Festival now, I suppose."
And after I think that, I forget about it and move on with my life the very next second. I don't ask myself why the writing on the Hungry Ghost Festival banner is in Chinese, when this is a festival that doesn't involve me. But the fact that Ridhuan cannot say the same makes me wonder whether Ridhuan has completely transformed into being a new person with a new group of people, or whether a part of him is still stuck in the old him and with his old people.
If he is still stuck, perhaps the Chinese community needs to do more to facilitate Ridhuan's departure from their midst by doing something to release the part of him that is still stuck with them, so that he can successfully complete his transmigration into becoming who he is supposed to be, and be at peace in his new place with his new people. They probably should, because as long as he remains frustrated and restless, being neither here nor there, he might not leave them or anyone in peace either.
