As I read an article of Twentytwo13 that compared the successes of the Malays to that of the Chinese and the Indians, it occurred to me why the Malays will probably never be as successful as the Chinese or the Indians.
The Malays will not be as successful as the Chinese or the Indians because when all else is equal, a native race has never been more successful than an immigrant. This is true in every corner of the world from time immemorial.
The native mindset is inclined towards happiness, not success. The immigrant mindset is inclined towards success rather than happiness. We can only be what we incline our minds to be.
If you are a native, you want to get along with everybody around you. As an immigrant, you want to be better than everybody around you. You will never be successful if you want to get along with everybody. If you want to be better than everybody, you will likely not get along with most people around you.
Even in Europe and America today, we can see that the immigrant races excel over the domestic Americans and Europeans in many fields. The New Prime Minister of Britain is of Indian heritage. Most of the CEOs of the major corporations in the West are from an immigrant stock. Ivy League colleges in the West are stuffed with those of immigrant descent.
The Jews, the oldest immigrant race in the world, are famous for excelling in various fields precisely because they retained their immigrant mindset regardless of how long they had migrated to their host nation. The Jews never allowed themselves to feel at home in a host nation even after hundreds and thousands of years. They always remembered where they came from, and no matter how many generations passed, they always yearned to return to their ancestral home. The Jews maintained their immigrant mindset for so many generations that the immigrant mindset is likely imprinted in their cultural DNA. It is likely because the immigrant mindset is ingrained in their cultural DNA that the Jews are such a successful, albeit neurotic, race.
An immigrant race, though successful, is almost always a neurotic race. No matter how successful they become, an immigrant race is never content. They are programmed to be discontent with themselves and the world they live in. Discontent is the fuel that the immigrants use to fire their desire to succeed. It is their discontent that relentless prods them change themselves and the world around them. The day an immigrant loses their discontent is when an immigrant is no longer an immigrant. On that day, they will become a native who will learn the art of being content and getting along with everybody around them. They will accept themselves as they are and accept the world around them as it is as well.
The Malays will likely only be more successful than the Chinese and the Indians if China and India rise to become the most dominant economy in the world. If the Malays immigrate to China or India then, they will be the immigrants of a more affluent China and India. As immigrants, they will likely be more successful than the indigenous Chinese and Indians there.
Even today, a Malay that immigrates to a more affluent country, like those in Europe or America, is likely to be a very successful individual.
It is also only the overseas Chinese and Indians that are distinguished by success. Indigenous Indians and Chinese of India and China on the other hand, are not particularly distinguished by success. The qualities that the twentytwo13 article attributes to the Chinese and Indians in Malaysia, such as being hardworking and having grit and possessing a determination to succeed, are not actually qualities that are peculiar to the Indians and Chinese. They are likely just qualities that are peculiar to immigrants.
A big part of why the NEP's aim to create a more equal society in Malaysia failed is because it tried to make the Malays more successful than the Chinese and Indians while still retaining their trait as a native race. You cannot make a race both content and successful. To be successful, you have to be discontent. You have to unhappy with yourself and everything around you. That is the only way that you will be able obtain the fuel to make a change.
A big part of the problem that the Chinese and Indians are having in being accepted as an equal citizen with the same rights by the Malays is because the Chinese and Indians are still very much inclined towards success. How will you be accepted by a people as one of their own when you are perpetually trying to better than them? Why would anyone want to include you in, when you don't look like you are happy being with them or happy being yourself. Even your siblings will likely be estranged from you if that is the state that you are perpetually in.
IF the government truly does not want the Indians and Chinese to be more successful than the Malays, all that they have to do is provide citizenship to the Bangladeshi, Indonesian, Rohingyas, Burmese or Nepali foreign workers here. If these foreign workers can compete on equal terms with Malaysians, I guarantee you that these new immigrants will become the most successful race in Malaysia in one or two generations.
If that comes to pass, I am very much interested to see how the Chinese and Indians here are going to react towards these foreign workers, who will likely take over many of their businesses by working twice as hard for half the pay. Are we going to say that it is only fair that these foreign workers get our businesses because they work hard and are determined to succeed, or are we going to complain that it is not fair that these "pendatangs" are taking away all the opportunities that should rightfully belong to those of us who have lived in this land for generations? Even now, we are already hearing of such complaints.
Other than that, to make the Chinese and Indians no more successful than the Malays, the government should probably also treat the Chinese and Indians as equal to the Malay. When treated equally, the Chinese and Indians here are apt to feel at home in Malaysia, and as soon as they feel at home, in one or two generations, instead of bearing with discontent to pursue success, they will forfeit success in pursuit of contentment. Instead of being perpetually unhappy with themselves and their world while relentlessly trying to change everything, they will accept themselves and their world while enjoying everything just as it is.
Once their mind is inclined in this manner, they will then become a less neurotic, more content, less successful and a more easygoing race.
In other words, they will just become like any other native race.
