The recent claims by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor regarding the existence of statutory declarations (SD) by MPs to form a new government have thrown Malaysian politics into further uncertainty.
Despite the opposition leader's office denying the viral statement about an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the speculation persists, adding to the already existing atmosphere of political intrigue.
Sanusi's cryptic response, asserting there are enough SDs to bring down the unity government, leaves citizens and observers on edge.
The opposition's swift dismissal of the statement as fake news only intensifies the confusion surrounding the alleged SDs supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The backdrop of the Langkah Dubai incident, debunked by Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
The purported gathering in the United Arab Emirates last month aimed at toppling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration has only fueled rumours and claims of moves against the unity government formed after the general election in November 2022.
Anwar, currently enjoying the support of two-thirds of MPs in the Dewan Rakyat, faces challenges not only from potential defections but also from claims that more PN lawmakers might declare support for his government.
