GUA MUSANG: Orang Asli communities in rural areas hope that Budget 2027, to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 9, will focus on their housing needs, particularly for families still living in homes built many years ago.
Kampung Tendrik Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee chairman Apek Asud said some of the houses, built more than two decades ago, had deteriorated due to age and weather conditions.
He said the damage included roofs, zinc sheets and wooden structures that had deteriorated over time, requiring attention to ensure residents’ safety.
“Most of these houses have been in use for a long time, and some are becoming increasingly dilapidated due to age and weather conditions. We hope the government will consider allocations to repair or build new homes for families in need,” he told Bernama recently.
Meanwhile, Kampung Tendrik resident Atar Pedik, 50, said his house, made of timber planks and bamboo, was increasingly unable to accommodate his growing family, causing some of his children who have families of their own to live separately.
“This house was built from timber planks and bamboo. As the children started their own families, the space has become increasingly cramped and insufficient. I hope that one day I can have a stronger and more comfortable home for my family,” he added.
