
Himachal Pradesh is set to witness heavy rainfall and hailstorms from May 28 onwards due to a fresh western disturbance which is very likely to affect the north-western region of the country.
The state’s Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra and Chamba for May 28, warning of heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places. A yellow alert has also been issued for thunderstorms, lightning and heatwave conditions in Solan, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Una on May 28.
The centre has forecast continuous precipitation across the state until May 30. Thereafter, weather conditions are expected to remain clear in the plains and low hills until June 2, while mid and high hill regions may continue to receive precipitation. During this period, minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C, while maximum temperatures may decline by 2°C to 6°C at several places across the state.
Meanwhile, weather conditions remained mostly dry across the state during the last 24 hours. Minimum temperatures stayed within the normal range and varied between 4°C and 24°C. However, maximum temperatures were 2°C to 4°C above normal, ranging between 18°C and 44°C.
The maximum temperatures in Shimla was 29°C, Dharamsala (35°C), Kangra (38.8°C), Mandi (38.6°C), Sundernagar (39.3°C), Kufri (24.1°C), Kalpa (25.4°C), Keylong (20.9°C), Nahan (36.6°C) and Bhuntar (36°C).
With a maximum temperature of 44°C, Una was the hottest place in the state, while Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest, recording a minimum temperature of 4.6°C.
