In the dystopian theatre of Malaysian politics, Datuk Dr. Marzuki Mohamad has pulled back the curtain to reveal a sinister script that could make even George Orwell raise an eyebrow.
In a country where power and deception have become bedfellows, Marzuki's nine-step exposé of the government's Machiavellian tactics to fell a political opponent reeks of Orwellian logic.
Orwell defined this logic as follows; "It denotes an attitude and a brutal policy of draconian control by propaganda, surveillance, disinformation, denial of truth (doublethink), and manipulation of the past, including the "unperson" — a person whose past atrocity is idealised from the public record and memory, practised by modern repressive governments."
- Step 1: Spread fake WhatsApp. The ominous overture begins with a simple message, sown in the fertile grounds of misinformation.
- Step 2: Lodge a police/MACC report based on fake WhatsApp. A seed of doubt is sown, and the authorities spring into action, setting the stage for a grand charade.
- Step 3: Police/MACC open investigation papers. The wheels of bureaucracy churn, and the trap tightens.
- Step 4: Remand order. An innocent soul is ensnared, their freedom curtailed.
- Step 5: Mainstream media take photos/videos of the person remanded. The propaganda machine gears up to capture the spectacle.
- Step 6: The mainstream media report that the remanded person is being investigated by repeating the facts contained in the fake WhatsApp. Truth takes a backseat as the narrative takes shape.
- Step 7: The mainstream media amplifies the perception that the fake WhatsApp is trying to create. Lies become truths, and the public is none the wiser.
- Step 8: The creator of fake WhatsApp spreads stories that his fabricated revelation is now being recycled by the mainstream media. A vicious cycle of deceit is in motion.
- Step 9: It doesn’t matter whether this is right or wrong. Job done! The ultimate goal is achieved – tarnishing reputations and destroying opponents, all while the puppet masters remain hidden in the shadows.
Marzuki's revelation sheds light on a grim reality where political villains concoct elaborate schemes to manipulate the masses. As allegations swirl and investigations commence, the truth becomes an elusive specter.
In a country where integrity seems to have become an endangered species, Marzuki's call for media and government agency bosses to find their spine is a glimmer of hope. As he aptly points out, governments change, but principles should endure.
In the end, what remains clear is that Malaysia, from the top echelons of power to the ordinary citizens, is ensnared in a web of deceit, controlled by political crooks with a disturbingly low-class mentality. As we ponder the depths to which our nation has descended, Marzuki's parting wisdom reminds us that time is short, and the legacy we leave behind should be one of professionalism and truth.
In an Orwellian world, the pursuit of truth may be our only salvation.
