As many as 10,985 candidates for the elections of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) in Himachal Pradesh have been elected unopposed following the withdrawal process, the State Election Commission informed on Tuesday.

These include 131 Gram Panchayats, 176 pradhans, 85 members, 286 vice-Pradan and 10,307 ward members.

Out of the total, as many as 1,888 candidates have been elected unopposed in Shimla district, highest in the state. Similarly, as many as 1,682 candidates have been elected unopposed in Kangra, 1,329 in Kullu, 1,309 in Sirmour, 1,184 in Solan, 841 in Lahaul and Spiti, 728 in Una, 587 in Hamirpur, 421 in Bilaspur, 412 in Chamba, 332 in Kinnaur and 272 in Mandi district.

As per the commission, it had issued a notification of the general elections of PRI on April 29, 2026, while the days for filing nomination papers were May 7, 8 and 11, 2026. Scrutiny of the nomination papers was carried out by the respective returning officers/assistant returning officers on May 12 and 13.

It was also informed that election symbols were allotted to the contesting candidates after the withdrawal of nomination papers on May 15, 2026.
