The Ministry of Digital, through MyDIGITAL Corporation, has launched the government-funded Global Learning Pass under the Rakyat Digital portal. This initiative aims to provide 100,000 Malaysians with three months of complimentary access to popular e-learning platform Coursera to support the country’s AI Nation 2030 vision.

What is Included in the Global Learning Pass?
Through Coursera, eligible learners gain access to over 16,000 courses, hands-on Guided Projects, and Professional Certificates across in-demand fields such as Artificial Intelligence, data science, technology, business, and digital literacy.
Key highlights of the programme include:
- Custom Beginner Course: Access to Understanding Digital Transformation, a 2-hour introductory course created by MyDIGITAL Corporation covering cloud computing, AI, machine learning, 5G, and blockchain.
- Industry-Standard Certifications: Top courses currently enrolled include Google’s AI Fundamentals, Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere, and Foundations of Project Management.
- Phased Rollout: A total of 100,000 licenses are being rolled out in phases. Since launching on 16 September 2026, over 12,900 learners have already enrolled.
- Learners can get micro-certificates upon completion which they can use for career upgrades.
Malaysia is a nation of learners

During the press conference highlighting this initiative, representatives from MYDigital and Coursera both pointed to the learning culture of Malaysians.
Through statistics shared with the media, Malaysians are increasingly taking charge of their career development through digital upskilling, with over 1.7 million registered learners across Coursera and Udemy accumulating more than 9.7 million course enrollments.
- The local learning culture is distinctly mid-career and practical, characterized by a median learner age of 34 years and a balanced 46% female learner base.
- Driven by a desire for career agility and future-proofing, Malaysians are heavily prioritizing artificial intelligence and next-generation tech skills—evidenced by one GenAI course enrollment occurring every 5 minutes in 2026, predominantly led by Millennials who account for 59% of these sign-ups.
- Crucially, while demand for technical proficiency in areas like Cloud Computing (+289%) and Generative AI (+235%) has skyrocketed, local learners are equally focused on strategic soft skills, demonstrating massive surges in Innovation (+359%) and Ideation (+285%).
- Combined with flexible habits where 37% of learners complete coursework on mobile devices, Malaysia’s learning landscape reflects a dynamic, self-driven workforce determined to stay ahead in an AI-powered economy.
Editorial Notes on this initiative
This is a genuinely valuable initiative for anyone looking to upskill without breaking the bank, as standard Coursera subscriptions are priced from US$35 (~RM140) per month.
However, Malaysians should keep a few fine print details in mind.
- First, the complimentary access lasts for three months, so it is best to choose specific professional certificates or short courses that you can realistically complete within 90 days. According to MYDigital, if you like the longer classes or want more, you may choose to extend the subscription by paying it for yourself.
- Second, registration strictly requires a valid MyDigital ID, so make sure your account is set up beforehand.
- Lastly, because the 100,000 licenses are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis subject to eligibility, it is wise to register as early as possible before spots fill up.
