KOTA KINABALU: More than 160 youths gathered at the Tanjung Aru Community Hall on Sunday for the Tanjung Aru 2025 E-Sport Mobile Legends Tournament organised by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah's (Gagasan Rakyat) youth wing.

The one-day tournament saw 27 teams competing for the championship title, with team “Can Botak” emerging as the overall winner. Seven other teams also took home prizes in various categories.

Guest of honour Dr. Ritchie Jay Cheng commended the strong participation, noting that digital platforms like e-sports play a crucial role in youth development.

“E-sports are more than just entertainment as they foster teamwork, discipline, and global competitiveness.

“We want Tanjung Aru's youth to see themselves not only as users of technology, but as creators of Sabah’s digital future," he said.

Dr. Ritchie also stressed that the party through the youth wing will continue empowering the age group through value-driven initiatives that nurture leadership and reject outdated political approaches.

“E-sports prove that Tanjung Aru youths are creative, disciplined, and capable of competing at higher levels.

"We aim to bridge youth aspirations with the progressive policies of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s government," Dr. Ritchie added.

Besides strengthening community ties between urban and rural youth, Dr. Ritchie called for more youth-driven initiatives to keep Tanjung Aru a hub of energy, unity, and innovation.
