Six urban local bodies will go to the polls tomorrow, with 28,292 voters set to exercise their franchise to elect a total of 48 ward members. The urban bodies where elections will be held on Sunday include the Municipal Councils of Mehatpur-Basdehra, Daulatpur Chowk and Santoshgarh, as well as the Nagar Panchayats of Gagret, Amb and Tahliwal. After reviewing the arrangements, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Jatin Lal informed that while one polling booth has been set up in each of the 48 wards, Ward No. 6 in Amb Nagar Panchayat has been allotted two polling stations. He said six election personnel would be deployed at each polling station.

Jatin Lal said that of the total 28,292 voters in all six urban bodies, 14,094 were women. The Santoshgarh Municipal Council has the highest number of 7,775 voters. There are 5,575 voters in Amb, 6,338 in Mehatpur-Basdehra, 2,875 in Tahliwal and 3,049 in Daulatpur Chowk ward.

He added that said 108 EVMs had been made available by the Election Department against the requirement of 49 for Sunday’s elections. He appealed to voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise to strengthen the grassroots democracy.
