WASHINGTON - More than three dozen people were killed and over 100 others injured in gun-related incidents across the United States on Independence Day, RIA Novosti found on Sunday based on data from analysts and media reports.

In south-east Washington on the evening of July 4, police found a 55-year-old man shot dead. An investigation was opened into the incident.

Several gun violence incidents occurred in different areas of New York. In Coney Island, at least eight people were injured in a shooting, including three children. Police said no arrests had been made.

Shootings were also reported in Virginia, North Carolina and other states. In Pensacola, Florida, five people were injured and one killed in a shooting overnight. Police reported several arrests. In San Antonio, Texas, six people were injured and one killed after three individuals opened fire on an apartment building, with two victims being under 12 years old.

Overnight into Sunday, seven people, including teenagers, were injured in a shooting on Chicago's West Side, according to police.

The Gun Violence Archive, which tracks such incidents, recorded seven mass shootings on July 4, defining them as incidents in which four or more people were injured.

US media often call July 4 the most dangerous day of the year due to the high number of gun-related crimes.
