MORE than 6,000 police personnel will be deployed across Malaysia during the upcoming Aidilfitri festive season as part of Op Selamat 26, a nationwide operation aimed at strengthening crime prevention patrols and monitoring traffic conditions.

The operation will run from 19 to 24 March and will involve the extensive deployment of police patrol units, including the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and the Mobile Patrol Vehicle unit.

Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a total of 6,132 personnel would take part in the operation, supported by 3,375 patrol vehicles and motorcycles.

He explained that 1,643 mobile patrol vehicles staffed by 4,332 officers would be deployed across police contingents nationwide to conduct patrols and monitor areas considered vulnerable to criminal activity.

In addition, 1,732 motorcycles from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit, accompanied by 1,800 personnel, will be mobilised to strengthen patrol coverage and enhance security monitoring.

“Besides that, a total of 22 MPV vehicles have been loaned to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department for monitoring accident ‘blackspots’ as well as locations that frequently experience traffic congestion,” he said during the Konvoi Iftar Sanjung Budi Frontliner programme.

Mohd Yusri also encouraged the public to make use of the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application when returning to their hometowns during the festive season.

The application allows residents to inform police that their homes will be temporarily unoccupied and enables them to share relevant information with the authorities.

“This application makes it easier for the public to notify the police of their absence from home and to provide information to the authorities.

“That information helps the police carry out regular patrols and monitoring, particularly in crime hotspot areas and locations that frequently experience congestion,” he said. - March 15, 2026
