Penang police have issued 392 permits for fireworks sales ahead of Aidilfitri, with ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance and safety.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police have approved 392 permits for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

State police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the permits were issued to traders who met all regulations and received police approval.

He added that 12 to 13 applications are still being reviewed and processed by the authorities.

“So far, there have been no arrests or actions taken against traders who are selling without a permit,” he said when contacted.

Azizee stated that police conduct regular monitoring and inspection operations on sellers to ensure compliance.

The monitoring operation will continue until the end of the Aidilfitri festive period.

In a separate development, Azizee said his team is finalising the investigation paper regarding a case involving independent preacher Zamri Vinoth.

The case, from an incident on March 7, is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for mischief.

Zamri had earlier uploaded a video showing his car being approached by men on a motorcycle before a collision occurred.
