SEREMBAN: Over 700 Negeri Sembilan Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel are on standby for possible floods during the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), which began last Tuesday and is expected to last until March 2027

Its director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Nazri Mes Kam said preparations included personnel deployment, equipment and logistics, with additional manpower to be mobilised as needed.

“Priority is being given to 20 flood hotspots in the state to ensure swift response and assistance for affected residents.

“APM is also conducting continuous monitoring and coordinating with relevant agencies, including the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), to safeguard residents, particularly those in high-risk areas,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Nazri, who is also the JPBN secretariat, urged residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert to weather conditions and follow authorities’ instructions, including evacuation orders.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip recently said that three to five episodes of continuous heavy rain were expected between November and January, potentially causing floods in low-lying areas and near rivers.

Strong northeasterly winds could also bring rough seas and rising sea levels in the South China Sea.
