THE Sultan of Pahang has urged Muslims to remain vigilant in observing the boundaries between what is halal and haram in all aspects of daily life, emphasising that adherence to Islamic principles is essential for safeguarding the wellbeing and moral strength of society.
His Royal Highness Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said Muslims must ensure that every aspect of their lives is guided by what is permissible under Islamic law while avoiding matters that are doubtful or syubhah.
He stressed that compliance with religious injunctions was not merely a personal obligation but a collective responsibility that helps preserve the integrity and harmony of the wider Muslim community.
“Do not forget that halal is, in essence, a command of religion, not merely a market brand. Halal is not just about a logo or stamp on a product, but about trust, integrity and the blessings in life.
“If something that enters the human body originates from doubtful sources, it not only harms physical health but can also darken the heart and damage the soul,” the ruler said in a post shared on the Pahang Royal Household’s official Facebook page on Wednesday night.
His Royal Highness made the remarks while officiating the declaration of the Kampung Simpang Tebing Tinggi Mosque as Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in Pahang.
According to the Ruler, adherence to halal principles not only brings blessings but also provides peace of mind, while avoiding doubtful matters serves as a safeguard that preserves the purity of faith and the dignity of religion.
“In a world that is rapidly changing, the question of halal and haram is no longer limited to food alone. It has evolved into a broader ecosystem of life encompassing various sectors including business, finance, medicine, logistics and the overall human lifestyle,” he said.
In the same address, His Royal Highness called on all parties involved in the halal ecosystem, including traders, manufacturers, restaurant operators and others in the halal supply chain, to uphold their responsibilities with integrity and not exploit the sensitivities of Muslims on matters concerning halal and haram.
He also expressed hope that the relevant authorities would continue strengthening enforcement against violations of the halal certification system and take firm action against any party attempting to manipulate it for personal gain.
“Indeed, safeguarding what is halal and haram is not solely the responsibility of the government or authorities, but a shared responsibility of the entire Muslim community.
“If Muslims themselves do not take seriously the question of halal and haram in their lives, then little by little we will lose the protective barrier that has long formed the foundation of the strength of Muslim society.
“If halal is upheld, society will live in blessings. However, if halal matters are taken lightly, then corruption and decay will gradually seep into our lives.” - March 12, 2026
