
Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old Pakistani who entered the State illegally and breached the conditions on his document which only allowed him to be in Peninsular Malaysia but had stayed in Sabah, was fined a total of RM3,500.
Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain handed the sentence to Zawar Ali who pleaded guilty to two charges against him.
AdvertisementOn the first count, Zawar was fined RM3,000 in default four months’ jail for entering the State without any document at 11.20pm on Jan 14 this year at Kedai Runcit Helal Enterprise in Kg Sonduon, Kepayan, near here.
The offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, and whipping, on conviction.

Read more On the second count, he was ordered to pay another RM500 or spend three months in prison for violating the conditions on his Temporary Works Visit pass in which the document only allowed him to be in the peninsula but he was staying in Sabah.
During mitigation, Zawar who was not represented, asked for a fine only to be imposed on him.

Meanwhile, a Filipino was jailed a total of 10 months for illegal entry and re-entering the State without any document.
AdvertisementJames Sampang who admitted to the charges against him, was jailed six months on the first charge for re-entering the State illegally after he was deported to his hometown on Dec 8, 2022.
He was jailed another four months for entering the State without any identification document.
James was arrested on Jan 25 this year at 10.22am at the construction site of Toyota service centre cum showroom in Jalan Haji Akhbar Khan in Kg Luangan, Beaufort.
The court ordered James to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department after completing the jail sentence.
