Crystal Palace have claimed a maiden European title with a 1-0 win against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday in the Conference League final.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the winner for the historic title in the 51st minute.

Goalkeeper Augusto Batalla parried Adam Wharton's effort but the rebound fell in front of the French striker, who calmly slotted the ball into the net.

Mateta was set to leave the club in January, but remained after he was denied medical clearance for a move to AC Milan due to a knee issue.

"I feel fantastic! I feel fantastic! We did it! First time in Europe and we did it. Now I just want to celebrate," Mateta told TNT Sports.

"We gave everything. I told you about the intensity they will have and I'm tired right now, I gave everything. That's why we won today.

"I'm always with the fans. They have supported me a lot as a player. They are always behind us. We did it for them too."

The title is another milestone for departing coach Oliver Glasner, who last year led Palace to their first-ever major trophy, with a 1–0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

"The difference he has made in two and a half years is incredible. Three trophies for Palace, the first three in the history of the club. First European competition and winning it. Unbelievable," Wharton told TNT Sports.

"He has got to be one of the best managers Palace have ever had. He has made a massive difference for how the club looks at competitions. We are not just looking to stay in the Premier League and be in Europe, we are looking to win it and be as high as possible."

Glasner's future is unclear and he's yet to announce his new team. He announced his decision to leave the club in January and publicly criticized Palace's transfer policy.

With Wednesday's win, Palace will also feature in the Europa League next season.

They were removed from the competition this term due to UEFA's rules against multi-club ownership. Palace's major shareholder John Textor's also owned French side Lyon, who had qualified for the same tournament.
