Palace on Trillanes’ claims: 'Act of treason' if proven

MANILA, Philippines — Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the accusations of former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV against Vice President Sara Duterte that she received money from the Chinese government was an “act of betrayal” if proven to be true.

In a statement on Friday, Castro said that while the administration would from making premature judgements, claims involving foreign influence and national security must be thoroughly investigated if backed by sufficient evidence.

"The administration is not making any judgments at this stage, but our fellow citizens ought to know if there is sufficient evidence," Castro said in Filipino.

She added that if Duterte’s acts were proven, accountability should be sought, as the act is considered treason against the country.

"If the evidence is sufficient, it should not be ignored," Castro said.
