Palace: PNP carries out its mandate in accordance with the law

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang defends heightened security measures at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court after the court issued an arrest warrant against Vice President Sara Duterte.

This comes after Duterte said she felt that she would be killed, noting she has documented threats and harassments made by the police since 2023.

“I have documented threats and harassment since 2023. I fear for my children. I do not feel they are safe if I am with them,” she said in a statement.

In a statement on Saturday, the palace said the Philippine National Police (PNP) was only upholding its mandate.

“The PNP carries out its mandate in accordance with the law—impartially, apolitically, and solely for the benefit of every Filipino. They remain professional in upholding the rights of all individuals under their protection,” the statement in Filipino reads.

It added that the administration has “full confidence” in the PNP.

They also reminded the public that concerns or complaints regarding police actions should be raised through proper channels rather than through “baseless allegations.”

The palace also reiterated that the administration would prevent police force from being used as an instrument of violence.
