Palace slams Magalong over ‘slow probe’ claim

PRESIDENTIAL Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro slammed Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong for claiming that the government’s investigation into the flood control anomalies is “slow.”

In a press briefing, Castro said the government’s investigation only began in September.

"It hasn't even been a year yet, but many have already been investigated, and numerous arrest warrants have been issued," she said in Filipino.

She also claimed that Magalong started his own investigations in his turf in 2019, and yet nothing has been done.

“Six years passed, yet he still hasn't done anything about the rock netting issue,” she said.

Magalong, however, said that the biggest contractor in Cordillera has been arrested, debunking Castro’s claims.

He added that cases have been filed before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Castro said the government remains steadfast in holding accountable any contractors or officials responsible for failed or delayed infrastructure projects.

"If one has the capacity to criticize and point out faults, one should also have the capacity to take action to help the government, rather than just engaging in criticism," she added.
