Palace: Villar’s shift to Senate majority won’t determine impeachment trial result

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang said Senator Mark Villar's decision to join the Senate majority bloc yesterday would not automatically affect the outcome of the Impeachment Trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a press briefing in Singapore on Friday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said senators would decide on the case individually, regardless of their membership in the majority or minority bloc.

“Even if most of them—or rather, some of them—belong to the majority, it does not mean that they will dictate the course of events in the impeachment trial,” she said in Filipino

Villar’s departure from the minority bloc increased the Senate majority to 14 members.
