MANILA, Philippines — Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the International Criminal Court’s announcement that former President Rodrigo Duterte was fit to stand trial is what Filipinos were hoping for.
In a press briefing on Friday in Singapore—where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is currently at for a working visit—Castro said Duterte’s physical readiness would allow him to properly address the accusations leveled against him.
"That is precisely what we are hoping for. Above all, what every Filipino wants is for former President Duterte to be in good health—to be stronger and mentally sharp enough to face the accusations being hurled at him," Castro said in Filipino.
